Let's play a "what if" game.
We all know that The Verve and Oasis were longtime friends. They both started recording around the same time, although Oasis was far more successfully initially than The Verve.
What do you think Oasis would have been if Richard Ashcroft and Nick McCabe paired up with Noel and Liam in Oasis? What kind of band do you think would have emerged? Something similar to Oasis or more similar to the The Verve? Would Oasis have been bigger, better, or worse?
Could this arrangement have worked? It would have made for a pretty interesting set of records. Definitely Maybe would maybe have been similar with many of its best tracks, but it may have had a spacier edge and instead of some of the album's weaker tracks, there may have been some more enigmatic tracks by Richard, sung by Richard.
What would an Ashcroft/Noel writing partnership have been like? Would Liam have sung on all the tracks or just most of Noel's? Could such an arrangement even have worked, what with McCabe and Ashcroft having a falling out?

Well, supposedly you say... Hmmm: that puts:
Noel and Liam Alan White Nick McCabe Richard Ashcroft
Ok, I think it will be big clash of personalities. Not to mention the fact that Richard is not so talented guitar player and can't handle the instruments much. As some people remember after Nick left the Verve in 1998 Richard tried with the guitar, but he just couldn't do it as good as Nick.
Since Ashcroft is a great singer I imagine he won't let Liam sing all of the album songs and thus it will result in a break-up. About McCabe - well, dunno... Maybe it's possible for him working with the band, but producing the chemistry that Oasis are making with Gem and Andy - I seriously doubt it.
Alan? Oh, we all tend to forget about Alan, who played for 8,5 fucking years. I imagine him quitting like he did this year, tired of being in a band.

You'd have to pick either Richard or Liam. There woudn't have been room for both.
Richard would've wanted to make darker and deeper music, Noel would've wanted things simpler with a more upbeat sound. At best, they might've made the next Dark Side of the Moon with that kind of diverse thinking and exploration between two people as potent as they were. At worst, it would've been interesting but unable to reach the peak that Oasis and Verve did with their own albums.

Actually, in The Verve, Richard wanted to take the pop route whist Nick wanted to be more experimental. However, on the whole I agree with what you say.
