this is from contact music:
British rockers OASIS have snubbed record label SONY by refusing to make their next LP a double album.
The upcoming disc is the band's last with the music giants, who wanted to end their relationship on a high.
But the WONDERWALL hitmakers deliberately scrapped tracks intended for a second CD, because they don't want to give the company bonus material for free.
Songwriter NOEL GALLAGHER says, "We've written 66 songs between the four of us and I think there's 12 on the album.
"We were going to do a double album, but we don't want to give Sony too much, 'cos it's out last one, so f**k 'em."

Does this mean that there will be a second back-to-back record for the upcoming one...? If so... it's fucking great! GREAT!

thats awesome cause now there shouldnt be any reason we will need to wait 3 years 4 the next lp unless they dont agree on there next label but i doubt that im sure NOEL must control the shots on that

I doubt we'll see any of the other songs released, except some as B-sides. Think about it; if they've gone back to record the album three times, it means they have three albums worth (about 66) songs worth of material, if you include all kinds of demos, bsides, and songs unfinished. They most likely never actually MASTERED 66 songs.
Besides, if they recorded those songs under contract with Sony, then SONY would have to release those songs; Oasis probably won't own the rights to them. And if Oasis went back and re-recorded, in part because Sony didn't like the output, I doubt Sony would relesae them anyway. I could be totally off about why the band re-recorded, but still, I'd think the songs are property of Sony, no?

After a 6 month tour they will probably take some time off as always and return a year or two later......decide to scrap all the old material and start fresh.... new producers, new band members etc etc- we all know the story It seems so rare for the big groups around at the moment to produce regular material. lazy fat bastards all of em! Although maybe this is the start of something new from the lads....

truth is, noel is bricking it about writing some good songs

liams "meaning of soul" was extremely cool to me. interesting stuff!

Re: the songs being property of Sony....
It isn't unusual (in fact, it's pretty common) for record labels to put a hold on how quickly the band can rerecord/release stuff it recorded on that label on a new label. From what I've heard about these sorts of things, a year is a pretty good deal, 3 years isn't unheard of. So we will not see the new songs that they recorded for Sony emerge on a different label for at least a year.

haven't they got some sort of strange distribution deal with Sony though rather than a normal contract, part of the weird structure w/ sony/creation, and creations latter colapse? So would Sony own anything they've recored or just the material they were given to release?

why would oasis want to sign a new contract with any label sour mash/big brother is noels own label and as far as song ownership goes the only person who owns them in oasis is the songwriter noel made sure of that when he signed with creation/sony

That's great news that we could have 2 albums from Oasis this year.
Only have to wait till May till the first one as well, quality!

Isn't the music they record "The Band's" until it is brought to the record label and accepted? The band itself pays for the recording, or am I wrong on this one? I'm sure alot of these songs were done before the redoing of this album.
