Both songs are big orchestral tours-de-force with big idealistic, uplifting lyrics. Both were written as epics by Noel much before Oasis made it big and he had high hopes for both. Both feature massive orchestral arrangements and long outros. So which do you prefer?
As for my own preference...
Whatever. I like All Around the World, but the orchestral arrangment doesn't hold a candle to Whatever's and I like Whatever's lyrics better as well. Plus, Whatever soars whereas AATW is bloated to me - it simply doesn't sustain itself over the course of 10 minutes (actually 12 with the reprise) and the energy seems to dissipate after 4 1/2 minutes. With Whatever, the song peaks with the fantastic outro.
As an aside, I still don't understand why Whatever has never been officially released in the US. Why wasn't it included on The Masterplan? I would've preferred that the Masterplan included Round Are Way and Whatever at the expense of The Swamp Song and the I Am the Walrus cover (I know, it's a fan fave, but if length restrictions were an issue I would've preferred the other two).

Whatever. Can't ever deny AATW for its moments, but it just isn't Whatever.
On your question about why it wasn't released in the US, I've heard Noel say he just never thought it would get over in America. I disagree with that, but in the same interview I think he said he didn't think American audiences got the music because they moshed to songs like Live Forever.
Round Are Way at the cost of Headshrinker would've been a good choice on The Masterplan but not Whatever because it was too closely related to the title track and you don't want two big anthems on there or it's overkill.

Whatever. The song epitomizes what makes Oasis great. The care-free lyrics encouraging people to do what they want to do, not what everybody else wants them to do. As for the song composition, the strings have a very attractive Irish vibe that sets itself apart from other Oasis songs with a string section (e.g. AATW). Whatever is a brilliant song. A crime it didn't go to number one on the UK charts. WTF was that all about?!?

Oh well... I love both but I'll vote Whatever 'cause me girlie can play it on her violin. ;D
And I think the sentence 'All around the world' is repeated too often.

I do like All Around The World but like others have said it goes on for way too long, well TBH you could say that about most of the B.H.N album. Whatever is much better imo and infact 1 of my top 5 oasis tracks, so uplifting, so energetic, so young, so free...whenever i listen to that song it reminds me of them long, hazy summer days when everything was great and seemed like it would go on forever...sorry i got a bit carried away but i do love that song!....Noel does a great version also !

I also love the guitar solo at the end of Whatever. It is so very simple and easy to play, but it is so effective in the context of the song.
