That's me again, I did not proof read my previous post sorry
.
What I wanted to say is that MG is neither a “best of” album nor a collection of singles. It is a concept album and that's why it so good, sounds so unique and has never dated. It may have four exceptional tracks such as Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, Some might Say and Champagne Supernova, but the other songs are really good and are fans favorite as well. For me Roll with it and She’s electric are fun, Hey now and Hello are always enjoyable, MG rocks, and Cast no Shadow is well written melloow song and is among my favorite tracks on the album. Every single song helps to keep the overall feel of the album, even the two "Swamp Song" instrumentals. The variety of the songs keep the album flowing well and prevent the MG from getting boring. As a result MG and DM are the only oasis albums that feel complete. I can listen to MG for days without feeling saturated or having the need to skip a track. I cannot say the same for the others except DM. I am sure that many oasis fans agree with me.
As for HC, I like it a lot. Liam's, Andy's and Gem's contribution was exceptional
. Liam's songs are ace and Oasis really sounds as a real band in that album compared to Sotsog. However, it falls short in some point.
Noel's contribution could have been better in that album based on the quality of the songs that he used to write. He used to have fun: lots of guitar solos ;D, catchy pop tunes
, I don't give a f*** attitude
, etc... He believed that Oasis was the best band in the world and wrote the tunes to back it up
. Now, it seems like he doubts himself. His professionalism and self-consciousness seem to come in the way. Put aside The Hindu Times and She is Love, his songs on HC sounded so cliché that that album left me somewhat unsatisfied
. Stop Crying Your Heart Out is very good but it sounds too much as a slower version of Slide Away. "Probably All in the mind" has exactly the same bass line as the Stone Roses' "Waterfall"
and therefore this song sounds a lot like it. And Little By Little is as cheesy as the band can get. As for "Force of Nature", don't get me started
! Hung in a bad place by Gem may be a good rocker but it is not the best one I have heard and is not as unique as a Supersonic, a Columbia or even a Some might Say. Only Noel knows how to write these tunes
. However, I always enjoy that album when I play it
.
As for Sotsog I love it a lot as well. It was a good attempt to reach MG's heights, but I have to say that it is not as complete as MG. Noel really did a good job on that album though, and what is amazing is that he was practically on his own. My only problems with Sotsog are that PYMWYMI feels uninspired and that album lacks more upbeat pop tunes that will give it more variety. I can see a Liar seems somewhat out of place with all these mellow songs. Sotsog may have good songs but lacks something overall.
There is a reason why most Oasis fans keep referring to the 94-97 era. Oasis was the best and the band believed it as well
. They were having fun and that reflected in their records. Their pop tunes and their rockers during this period were their best to date. It is not for nothing that most of their set list is from that era or their songs from that period are considered as Classic
. HC and Sotsog may be good albums but for me, they are not oasis' best. That doesn’t make me an idiot for that. When I bought these albums I was really open minded. I was ready to give them their chance. However, they did not bring me what the others did. They let me with the feelings that they could have been better. If it was another band, maybe I would not feel that way, but DM, MG, BHN put my expectations for the band very high. HC and Sotsog were good attempts but did not reach them. However; I can confess that they really stimulated my anticipation for the next album that I think will be very good
