An interesting thread on THE MASTERPLAN album got me thinking... One way of judging The Masterplan's strength might be to count how many of its songs should replace proper album songs... Fade Away, I am the Walrus, Listen Up, Half the World Away, and Its Good to Be Free were all from DM (and the Whatever single) IMO, putting Good to be Free and Fade Away in the album instead of Digsy and Shakermaker would have greatly improved DM. (Walrus is a cover, Half the World is too much bacharach although i would have it over sad song, and listen up is too much like supersonic and liveforever) Underneath the Sky, Aquiese, Talk Tonight, Swamp Song, Rockin Chair, Headshrinker, Masterplan are all from MG Acquiese without a doubt should have been the lead off song instead of Hello (goodbye gary glitter!!)and The Masterplan would have blown the lightweight Hey Now to bits but other then that, I don't think any other songs make it. Talk Tonight and Rockin Chair are pleasent fodder for the never made noel g solo album, swamp song never really gets out of its instrumental bog...headshrinker sounds more like a DM b-side...Underneath the Sky might be a better song then Shes Electric but i can't fathom the thought of Morning Glory without her family full of eccentrics. Going Nowhere and Stay Young are the two (2!!!!!) songs from the BE HERE NOW b-sides. I'd switch magic pie with stay young...and i don't know what i would do with going nowhere...maybe i would have slid it in during the going nowhere fade of AATW  ...naaa. By my count that is five songs that are good enough to replace album cuts...I've always liked THE MASTERPLAN as an album and that number seems a little low to me... How many would you have switched? |

i definitly wouldnt have replaced shakermaker with its good to be free. Apart from shakermaker being a better song (in my opinion) it wouldnt really suit the overall feel of the album.
id probably throw in acquiesce instead of hey now on MG.

I think they could have cut the swamp song from MTSMG and Roll With It. They should have added Underneath The Sky, Acquiesce and The Masterplan onto the album.
For Definately Maybe they could have cut Digsys diner, and Shakermaker. They should have put Fade Away and It's Good to be Free.
Be Here Now could have used those B-sides, and some older songs like Sad Song and Whatever. That would have saved that albums from being as bad as it was.

I wouldn't change Definitely Maybe (everyone says Digsy's Dinner is shite which in all fairness it is but it's there and i wouldn't replace it... it's the mess around song)
Headshrinker WAS pretty much an old Def. Maybe B-Side (it was however placed on the Some Might Say single)
Some Might Say was written when Tony was still in the band (the drums on this song are by Tony McCarol) Headshrinker wouldn't have fitted in with WSTMG but wasn't on Definitely Maybe. It's a shame because it's a great song but was there at the wrong time.
I wouldn't have put Hey Now on the album and i would have replaced it with Acquiesce
I'd give my view on Be Here Now but i really can't be fucked and i'll save it for later (when i have a long time to type)

That would have saved that albums from being as bad as it was. i disagree. i think that flashbax and the fame could have been put in, because they go with the flow of the album. sad song and whatever don't. |

i disagree. i think that flashbax and the fame could have been put in, because they go with the flow of the album. sad song and whatever don't. be here now is perfect as it is.. probably its gettin better man is not one of the bests songs.. but it fits be here now... but probably stay young could have replaced it... definitely maybe is also great like that. i mean, digsys dinner is not one of the bests also, but i do like it and it fits the album so perfectly! but i would make many changes in wtsmg, though.. like throwing in acquiesce, takin out hey now... putin in masterplan would have made it a pure class also... and some more changes.. |

if aqcuiesce and the masterplan were (wts) mg it would be a better album then DM.

the "problem" is that the oasis b-sides are as good as the A-sides, I'm sure that if hey now had been a B-side we would have said that is better than one of the album...or maybe not...we'll never know...  |
