ROBBIE Williams has shot up the list of the all-time chart greats. He has rocketed 20 places in the past year from 66 to 46 — leapfrogging acts like T Rex and Abba — thanks to hits such as Come Undone and Something Beautiful. The list, compiled by British hit singles experts, is based on the number of weeks spent on the chart. Elvis Presley tops the list, followed by Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Elton John and Madonna. Kylie Minogue, who leapt up the list last year, rises just two places from 25 to 23. The top 18 of the list remain the same. Oasis are the only act to move up in the top 20 - rising to 19 from 21. Names which slipped out of the top 100 this year include Buddy Holly.
The top 30 1 Elvis Presley 2 Cliff Richard 3 The Shadows 4 Elton John 5 Madonna 6 Diana Ross 7 Michael Jackson 8 Rod Stewart 9 The Beatles 10 David Bowie 11 Frank Sinatra 12 Queen 13 Status Quo 14 Stevie Wonder 15 Paul McCartney 16 Tom Jones 17 Rolling Stones 18 The Bee Gees 19 Oasis 20 Roy Orbison 21 The Everly Brothers 22 UB40 23 Kylie Minogue 24 Shirley Bassey 25 Perry Como 26 Jim Reeves 27 Lonnie Donegan 28 The Hollies 29 Four Tops 30 Whitney Houston
Oasis are the only act in the top 30 that started in the 90’s Oasis also hold the record for most weeks spent on the singles chart in one year which was 1996 when they spent about 146 weeks on the chart despite only releasing Don’t Look Back In Anger and still having Wonderwall in the chart in 1996 they clocked loads of re-entries with singles like Cigarettes and Alcohol and Whatever.

That chart looks about right. Hmmm that is right, there are no other 90's bands up there, and in another 10 years they should be much higher. I don't think any new bands will make it as high due to the decline of purchased music.

Maybe one of the older members... i.e. webman can explain. alright kids, gather around the old fire place , come on don't be shy move a little closer so you can all hear.... Well it all started when back in ........... In the late 50s, there was very little rock music as such in this country. Cliff and 'the Drifters' brought the stirrings of rock 'n' roll from America to England. Within a few months, the Shadows became stars in their own right with a string of instrumental hits such as Apache and FBI - "The Shadows sound" was established, inspiring thousands of budding guitarists to try emulating them. For thirty years, they were Europe's top rock instrumental group. Today, even though they have not recorded or toured together since 1990, their style is still instantly recognised and when asked to name their favourite instrumental band, most people still say THE SHADOWS So there you go , hope that explains what all the fuss is about
