being an out of touch kid living in America, why do Noel and Liam give the backwords peace sign in a lot of their pictures? I know it means to "fuck off" but why don't they just give the cameras the middle finger, that just seems more direct and to the point to me.

the english folk on the forum should correct me if I m wrong but is the two finger sign sort of meant to be a "up yours, go fuck yourself " kind of deal, guess each culture needs their own profanities...

history of the 2 finger salute V - Sign (2-Fingered Salute) a british insult - comes from the battle of agincourt during the reign of edward III of england. if the english archers were captured by the french they used to cut off the fingers needed to fire a longbow - raising your two fingers is to the enemy.

So in England, do they block it out when people hold up the two fingers on tv?
