David Gray has beaten Oasis' Noel Gallagher to win the coveted Best Song gong at the Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting in London.
(Noel was nominated for Stop Crying your Heart Out )
The prestigious ceremony, held this afternoon at Le Meridien Grosvenor House in central London, honoured the best in British songwriting and saw a host of stars recognised for their achievements in 2002. Coldplay were named Songwriters Of The Year following the success of their acclaimed second album, 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', whilst David Gray's single 'The Other Side' was named Best Song. Mike Skinner, aka The Streets, took home the award for Best Contemporary Song ('Weak Become Heroes'), whilst pop group Liberty X collected the PRS Most Perfromed Work award for their smash hit single, 'Just A Little'. Elsewhere, Avril Lavigne's breakthough hit, 'Complicated', was named International Hit Of The Year, whilst Bryan Ferry was honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Former Beach Boys frontman and all-round musical legend, Brian Wilson, was presented with a Special International Award for his songwriting achievements.

david gray is ok, he's done some decent tunes but imo The Other Side is one of his worst and does'nt come close to Stop cryin....

the other side is depressing as hell and he repeats the same line over and over. I love 'This Years Love' though!

yeah? well like i say, i just can't get away with that one. i like most of his stuff but that song isn't his best, for me.

and compared to Stop Crying your Heart Out, i think its no where near as good. But David Gray has a great voice
