from official Strummer website:
Question: There's an awful lot of people telling you to stay in the rut, as you're trying to get out of it - 'This is the way it should be, the way it's always been and this is the way it's always gonna be'. It does take confidence and a bit of push to get out there, in any walk of life. Answer: Think of Noel Gallagher. He's got all the pressures in the world on him. Oasis have a certain sound. I often feel for him because he can't really veer off and do something really weird. He feels for the Oasis fans and they like their Oasis the way it is. In a way he's more boxed in because of his massive sales. He knows that he can't veer off. Question: It takes foresight and a bit of bravery to break into new territory, doesn't it? Sometimes people love you for doing it, and sometimes they just think you're an arsehole. Answer: Don't forget the pressure he's got we can't even imagine. Imagine it for the record company. They're making money the way it is and if he suddenly went clog dancing, there'd be total dismay. I feel for him because he's got all that massive following and it's weighing on your neck.

i`d agree with what he`s said. Us fans do expect a certain sound from Oasis, and i think most would be very sceptical if Noel did try something radically different. Having said that, it`s very important for a band to develop and try new things. The 3 songs written by Liam are very exciting and i hope he writes more for the new album

What year is that quote from? 1997-1999 would make PERFECT sense.

What year is that quote from? 1997-1999 would make PERFECT sense. I think it actually was 2002, which would also make sense given the attempts to return to the classic rock n' roll sound on Heathen Chemistry, although post Be Here Now would have also made sense.
