LIAM GALLAGHER is in the running to score a surprise Christmas number one with 'SCORPIO RISING', the track he recorded with DEATH IN VEGAS. The song is currently 10/1 for the top spot, according to bookies William Hill, placing it higher than pop favourites Darius, Will Young, Blue and The Cheeky Girls.
Liam's biggest competition will come from Robbie Williams with 'Feel' at 7/1, Gareth Gates also at 7/1, Louis Walsh's all girl group from Popstars: The Rivals at 7/2 and the runaway favourites One True Voice - Pete Waterman's all-boy group from the same show.
The track was recorded in DIV's Contino Rooms studio in Hoxton earlier this year. The version on the album features Liam's vocal recorded in one take.
If Liam does climb to top of the chart, it will mark his first Number One outside of Oasis. He has some catching up to do on brother Noel. Noel scored a number one in October 1996 when he lent vocals to the The Chemical Brothers' 'Setting Son'. In 1999, his second track with the The Chemicals' 'Let Forever Be', peaked at Number Nine.

10/1 is great odds but i don`t think its worth a bet. The girl or boy bands from popstars will probably be number 1 and 2 at xmas. I doubt robbie williams will be able to hang on to number one for 3 weeks so i`ll go for the boy band "one true voice" to be xmas number. Their odds are poor though so if you`re betting go for the girl group "Girls Aloud" each way Think i`ll put a couple of quid on
