Aye you can Control Panel -> Performance & Maintenance -> System this dialogue box pops up:- choose the "computer name" tab and then click the "change" button, just type the name in and click "ok".

are you sure? I don't think that will change his user name, it will change his pc's name. and for that matter, I don't think you can actually change it. you may have to create another user with the name you want. I might be wrong though ;D that's always a possibility.

hey globe can you hear me gloating? your right eva i've tried that and it doesn't work, I think it's something to do with the name you registered with with windows/microsoft?. it's actually the name you use when you install windows. you can create another user and delete the other one if you want, as long as you back up your files first and create the new user as admin

You want to change your username? Try this: Control panel - user Accounts - Change accountname (or sth. like that, my windows version is Dutch so I don't know the exact English terms). I use Vista so it could be different in XP

^^ that changes the name that appears in the welcome screen and the start panel etc. it won't change the actual name of the folder that holds the files (c:/documents and settings/username) as he wants.

I read that all wrong obviously ;D what you need to do is what eva has already kinda said - create a new user with the desired name you want and then copy the documents and settings from the old user into the new users account, then just delete the old user. This would save you from backing everything up as eva has said
