oh ya, when you do buy one be sure to pay the litle extra for the actual system restore DVDs. When we got the new HP it didn't come with one and instead you make your own off the hard drive. Bullshit really, especially considering 20 gigs of the quoted HD space are taken up by have all the system restore data in a partionined part of the HD.

My advice when buying a laptop would be - dont, save some money and get a desktop instead Seriously, I'd honestly recommend getting one which has XP installed rather than Vista right now to be honest. There are a lot of deals out there which give you a laptop with XP installed with the option of a free upgrade to Vista in the future. Like meanstreak said, lots of programs and other bits of hardware dont have drivers yet which are compatable with Vista etc, plus it's best to wait until some of the early bugs are sorted out etc. Also depending on what version it is, it uses up a lot of memory, so you might need upto 2GB of RAM for good performance. Saying that, I don't really think you can go wrong with a Sony VAIO.

ya the sony's are pretty sweet. But if you are gonna run vista DEFINATELY get at least 2GB or ram, especially since you are complaining about loading speed! See how much it would cost to get even more, I'm telling you it would be worth it! Since I put XP on hers it feels like it runs practically twice as fast. Vista to me felt like it was dddrraaaaggniinngg, ya know?

Sony VAIO really isn't worth the price you're paying. You're just paying a lot for the "Sony" name.
Look for other brands if you can. Toshiba and HP make really good ones. Make sure you go with someone who offers a good warranty (repairs etc) and tech support.
Also, Vista really isn't worth it at the moment. Wait til it gets a little older, so stick with XP if you can.

Specs look good, just make sure you like the feel of it, it's no fun typing on a machine that you hate! I actually love samsung mobile phones and I have a couple of older ones that seem to be indestructable! I even dropped one into a 24 inch deep pool about 3 years ago, I pulled it out, opened it up and put it infront of a fan to dry out, and it still works perfectly fine to this day!

lol big and strong ya, but Yankee? No way man! Yankee's are only from the Northeast. I'm a red, white & blue Southern Man! If you are ever bored search for "The Southern Avenger" on youtube for some insight into the average white-guy from the south!
