i recently ran disk defrag on my external 300gb hard drive and when i came back my entire music folder was gone. when i run properties on the hard drive it says that 260gb are in use meaning i still have those files somewhere on there. but when i go to windows explore the music file is not on the hard drive and when i try to access its folder it says file path not valid! when i run my file recovery the files are there but i only have 90gb left on my laptop and it says i should not resave in the external hard drive! what should i do? what i can i do to recover my music file? PLEASE HELP ANYONE! ALL OF YOU KNOW I KNOW HOW RARE SOME OF MY ALBUMS AND GIGS ARE!

don't use the same drive cos it might overwrite the old stuff. don't touch that one. the ideal thing is to use another hard drive to store the files while you recover them.
but unless you get a new hd -or borrow one from someone else, one thing you can do is to recover in parts. select about 80-85GB at a time, save the recovery dat file to continue later and store wathever you can save on your laptop, maybe later burn them in dvds. it might cost you more than to buy a new hd, but at least you'll get some of your stuff back
