Hmm, have you got the latest version of iTunes? That could be the problem. Or the latest software for your iPod? But I guess it can't be that if the iPod isn't recognised.

Trying going to 'My Computer' under devices with removable storage and see if its there. You could try accessing it in iTunes from there. Or go to File in iTunes and try the update ipod button and see if that does anything.
