how do you compress files to zip files

you just select the files, right click, "add to zip file"

Well first download winrar @ www.rarlab.com and install, I find that best to use. Then, go to the place where the files are you want to zip, and right click in the empty space around the files. A list should appear, go to 'new' and then another list should appear where you should click on WinRAR zip archive. It will create a zip folder, adn you can then drag all the files into that folder which will put them into that zip file.

I don't believe you actually need Winrar to zip files though. I thought windows has it's own built in zip function so you don't need to download anything else but Winrar is still good to have in case you come across any rar files.

Nah you don't need WinRAR to make zip files but its recommended. Much better then windows one, and its hardly takes up any space.
