ok!
first impresions, you might have checked though....have you checked that the volume for the speakers (software) is turned up AS WELL AS the volume control in windows? theres usually the option in the sound control panel to change the volume of the sub/bass and also other additional speakers - when this happens to me, its usually a mix of the speakers are low and i turned up the windows volume and eentually reached the top!
also, again you might have already checked, but is the speaker plug fully in the right hole, and are you sure that the sound setting is selcted for DESKTOP and not HEADPHONES- all the the sound control
hope thats a help....or atleast a start!

is there any sound at all? even a crackle when you plug the speakers in? if not, yeah, i would think could be fuse or soundcard.

have you tried other speakers? even headphones will tell you, if the sound is really quiet, as the speakers are- in that case its either software or the card, if the volume is loud-its the speakers.

go into your driver settings and check that your sound driver is working ok, try updating this driver.
