I think it does, but you can always download drivers that make it go faster I think. << Needs confirmation though.

As far as im aware you cant get any drivers to increase the speed of your dvd burner, otherwise what would be the pont of forking out 300 quid on a brand new super fast one when you can get a cheap one for say 50 quid and update it it basically works like this.... Recordable discs come in different speed ratings (2x = twice standard write speed, 8x = eight times standard speed, and so forth). The speed ratings of blank discs match the speed ratings of drives. When faster drives become available, new discs are designed to work with the new drives as well as older drives. This means you should use discs that are rated at or above the speed of your drive. For example, if you have a 4x drive you should use 4x or faster discs, not 1x or 2x. Almost all home DVD video recorders use 1x drives, so any speed of discs should work.

if thats the case then it could be some problem with the burning device?? drivers/software being used
i take it lower speed disks work fine do they??
if so why not just use them as you'll get no benefit from using 8x disks if you can only write at 2.8x

it write cd+r fine, at 8x
dvd+rw fine at 2.8x (the discs are 4x)
but its really hard to find slow speed discs so thats the problem. It always fucks up when trying to do a dvd+r 8x
