i know this is old news but i only watched it the other day over here in the uk on MTV 2 - it was the top 20 rock bands in american history voted by the usa fans for mtv - oasis made it to number 17 along with the cure at 16 i think , just want to know if there is an american on here , did you see it over there , there was an american host but i've never heard of him as im from the uk. how did they make it in the top 20 before the likes of queen and that if they supposed to have failed over there.

so do i, i thought it was the top 20 not 25 , but it was a proper show on mtv 2 - Oasis were in there and the like of anthony (whatever his name) from chilli peppers said he liked them and could'nt understand why so much arrogance from them as the music stood up on it's own. basically i think they were said to be a bit of a cult band over there with a lot of hard core fans that still buy all their stuff.

if it was top 25 then oasis in my opinion would be top 5 for sure, as they not only talked it but walked it, but this was top 25 bands of the last 25 years voted by americans, it was on mtv 2 in the uk , dont know what channel in usa but it was 1 of the vh-1's over there. And yes the lead singer of chilli peppers said he liked them -well not so much them but their music.

He's said he likes Oasis' music before, but from his comments he seems to be a fan of their music but not the arrogance and attitude of the band.

I think it was top 25 bands of the past 25 years no no no, don't get us wrong. we think they're the #1 band of the past 25 years! but in america, they were only really big in 1996-early 1997. that was 8 years ago. most people here in america think they broke up. i had a huge argument with somebody over it (you know, those cocky as hell rhcp/nirvana listening'music afficionados'). it's just that i'm surprised that they would be thought of that highly in america.

it was on about 3 months ago and i pulled it out the other day , can't remember what it was called cos i taped over it but i will find out and post it, the guy off trl - not the uk 1 but the usa host, i think his name is carson or something , you know the guy that interviewed liam on there, he talked about them and said he was a big fan. i only wish some of you above from america could have been there in the mid-90's to witness the freazy that was 'oasis mania'. to really get an idea of what it was like over here, you should buy a documentry on ebay called 'pure oasis' it's got all of the stuff broadcast back then.only wondering but with usa being so big i would have thought you dont get the same sought of freazy over bands out there.

your spot on tubbs i have never witnessed anything like what i saw in the uk with OASIS in the mid 90s over here.even nirvana i mean it was big but it was more a grunge movement then a band thing, and it was still only a part of the youth culture its too diverse here for a frenzy anymore, whos into rap, pop, alternative ,everything is so different that there can never be a total madferit mentality for 1 band,, which is why i love the uk and got so into the boys it was more than music it was a lifestyle that i will always look back on as the best time i ever spent in my life and OASIS was the soundtrack 2 it

Ok this is what I remember. It was an MTV 2 production and they were promoting the #2 by having the top 22 bands of the last 22 years.
I believe Oasis was #14. This was voted for online and although it was a U.S. MTV 2 poll, fans in the U.S. informed their fellow rabid Oasis fans in the U.K. of this poll and it helped the vote.
Oasis is awesome but I was surprised they were at 14( on a U.S. Poll) for the last 22 years. Without the info on voting not getting onto the official Oasis site, it may not have gotten that high. I believ a lot of the Brits that voted thought it was for MTV2 UK.
Here was the list:
Note: this list is based on MTV2 voters greatest bands for the last 22 years.
22. R.E.M. 21. Van Halen 20. Limp Bizkit 19. Phish 18. Alice in Chains 17. Dave Matthews Band 16. Korn 15. Aerosmith 14. Oasis 13. The Cure 12. Nine Inch Nails 11. Smashing Pumpkins 10. No Doubt 9. Pearl Jam 8. Green Day 7. Red Hot Chili Peppers 6. Linkin Park 5. Radiohead 4. U2 3. Guns n Roses 2. Metallica 1. Nirvana
It went from 1981 to 2003.

it's great to see people from the other side of the pond bigging up OASIS cos most people over here can't understand why they were'nt just as big over there cos they got the lot - song writting, voices, dont give a f**k mentality, play huge gigs, sold close to 50 million records (albums + singles that is), huge fan base. i was talking to some guy from over there before who said he wrote for a rock magazine or something - nothing big or anything - and he sais most of there lack of success was down to them f**king off when they were hot over there , liam walking off the tour.and a lack of backing from SONY - promotion etc ,

Yes, that is pretty much the answer. DM (although now a platinum record in the states) sold ok when it came out but not crazy. Live Forever was a decent hit, but nothing else played over here that much from the rest of the cd. Morning Glory is what broke them w/ Wonderwall & then Champagne Supernova leading the way. Oasis' most anticipated tour (I had 4 great tix here in Tampa) but of course the tour was cancelled (it was either Liam's house hunting of Noel's walkout) and when that happened a lot of people tuned out. Then there were people that probably could have been brought back, but they wanted another Morning Glory & although I like Be Here Now, people here wanted more short radio friendly songs and Don't Go Away was the only thing that did ok. It sold 1,000,000 but it was off the tails of MG. Then 3 years went by and SOTSOG came out w/out fanfair and it was over. HC could have done great b/c everyone I know that has heard it especially SCYHO love it, but it wasn't promoted here.
Now they are lumped in with 90's nostalgia shows and most people here that aren't 'in the know' don't know anything about them. Their music caters to a crowd in their mid twenties to late 30's here and the teens and kids don't even know who they are.

I live in the states (from UK) and I seen this show. There was a bit of coverage for each of the bands voted for. There was a few Americans on talking of Oasis, I remember Carson Daly (formerly MTV) talking about how Liam didn't bother with the MTV Unplugged but that Noel held his own. I think Oasis were around the Cure and Matchbox 20 or something on the list.
I've heard Keidis say that he's a fan of Oasis' music but not to tell them that as they're ego doesn't need to be massaged any further. Something to that effect.
There used to be an Oasis' Famous Fans website that had snippets of stars into Oasis. It seems to be off the net these days but I remember alot of people and their quotes on it too. You'd be surprised at some of the people listed.
