One day its hot, the next - we're all in coats and scarves! it has been a pretty decent and warm summer though - glastonbury caught a bad weekend....

i love when people try to claim ownership of photos they didnt take. unless the owner of oasisnews.blogger.com.br actually took those photos he has no right to put his websites url on them.

I wrote: "PIX @ GETTY IMAGES" Didn't you see? it doesnt matter, legally you're not even allowed to USE those pictures without permission from the photographer or paying for the right to publish them through gettyimages even IF you put a source on them (though it happens all the time and is impossible to prevent on websites) and you're definitely not legally allowed to somehow claim co-copyright by putting YOUR OWN url over top. By doing so, you're claiming that you somehow have co-ownership and rights to that photograph along with gettyimages. are you the photographer? did you buy the rights to publish those photos? Absolutely not. If you hadn't of put your own url over top I wouldnt have been bothered enough to say anything but the fact that you're claiming you somehow had a part in those photographs by putting your url on them just makes me sick. you know, photographers go to a LOT of work to get those photographs and then you go and try to claim a part in them by putting your url on them when you didnt even pay for the right to do so like gettyimages does? what right do you have to do this? NONE. absolutely none. bottom line: you have NO right to claim co-ownership of a photograph by putting your url on it when you are neither the photographer nor have bought the rights to publish it from the photographer or a photography agency like gettyimages which photographers sell their images to.

In my experience with this site photographers actually are easier to deal with than agencies. I get emails back the next day . I've never gotten turned down to put photos up on L4E. If I know the source of a batch of pix I usually try to get in touch with the owners.....

yeah like i said, even if you didnt contact them, no one really cares if fan websites publish them (especially with gettyimages logo across them), even if it is illegal but its good that you make the effort to ask. the problem i have with this is that the owner of the website is putting her URL on top of the photos. whether it was to claim co-ownership of them or to just get advertising for her website when people post the photos on places like this, its still completely unethical and illegal.
but i do know a LOT of photographers who wouldn't allow you to publish their photos even if you asked because even if you credit them as the photographer, that doesnt make them any money and thats all they're interested in. its hard to make money as a photographer, you have to have a lot of experience to be good and with people stealing photos all the time cos they think its ok, its difficult to let people use your photos, even if they ask, when you're not gonna make any money off of it. this is their career you have to remember, this is how they put food on their table.
but i'm guessing the photographers on gettyimages dont care because they wouldnt make money off the small preview images you're using anyways... their photos get sold to magazines and newspapers who need high res photos to print.

it's tradition, we have a good summer, then as soon as glastonbury and wimbledon come along so does the rain, if there is anyone up there then they like pissing on the english.
