OASIS played their first gig of the year tonight - and gave their biggest hints yet to the songs they’ll be playing at this weekend’s GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL.
The group warmed-up for this weekend’s headlining slot on the Pyramid Stage with a show at the Poole Lighthouse, Dorset (June 23).
The gig is their first since a small run of dates in Germany and Ireland in March 2003, and their smallest UK show with the full band since 2002.
The band’s 90 minute set was mainly comprised of greatest hits, but also featured two songs set to appear on their as-yet-untitled new album - ’A Bell Will Ring’ and ’The Meaning Of Soul’.
’A Bell Will Ring’ has been described by NME.COM’s reporter at the gig as a mid-tempo track in a similar vein to ’Live Forever’ or ’Songbrid’, while ’The Meaning Of Soul’, written by Liam, is a full on rock number reminiscent of ’Bring It On Down’.
The set ended with a cover of The Who’s ’My Generation’.
It was the first chance fans had to see new drummer Zak Starkey, who filled in for Alan White, who left the band earlier this year.

how about at least one song from BHN? they've got 5 albums worth of tunes, countless B-sides, but they keep dragging out the same songs. Not trying to be negative, but the only variety is the fact that they mixed up the order....

I dont like the way they trying to make people forget BHN and now... even SOTSOG. I understand, that Noel is not satisfied enough with them, but the songs were cool, BHN is my favourite album, altough what the rest of the world thinks.... so, this is great day, because the new titles were revealed, but I still have to dream about an ideal gig, where they would play songs from all albums... I can easy imagine that after another 5 years noel will be saying: "Heathen chemistry? This album was rubbish! We made our best record now. So setlits on our new tour will be made out of DM and the new one!"..... Isn't that little bit boring?

It's sort of what was to be expected listening to Noel's interviews over the past few weeks. Playing it safe and letting Zak get his feet wet with Oasis....

if that's the setlist....... one word: YAWN huh? its a freaking greatest hits setlist! what the hell else were they gonna play? They're not touring a new album here i can understand people looking for one or two songs from BHN and maybe SOTSOG, but you have to put these gigs in perspective. They are warming up for a festival gig with a brand new drummer. they arent gonna play a setlist of B-sides and rarities. The Glastonbury gig will be the best known songs plus a couple of new ones. you cant expect the new drummer to be able to play the entire Oasis back-catalogue! Btw - one of the new songs is described as being like Live Forever and Songbird? wtf? those songs sound nothing alike

c'mon people, they have plenty of songs, they can't play everything. if u think it's a shame they dont play any song from SOTSOG, it's a bigger shame they dont play anything from BHN.

Most wont know the band's rarer stuff - they will want to hear the classics when Oasis tour properly for their new album, hopefully they will mix the setlist around and play more varied material, but for glastonbury - it will be a very predictable setlist

It looks like a great setlist with the exceptions of little by little and scyho - not exactly festival songs.
bring it on down! finally its back!

This band has defined my existence (for better or worse) for 10 years now. Being from the states it nearly killed me to not be there this week in case new songs were in fact played- seeing that setlist makes me feel a little bit better about myself. Yeah, it would have been mega to hear the 2 new songs, but considering ive seen everyother song played live on various occassions- I wont be gnawing at my wrists tonight. I only have 2 negative things to say about the band my life is worked around... 1- the setlists are too predictable and 2- they take waaaay to long between records. The only reason they fell off in America is the long waiting periods between records. DYKWIM got a lot of airplay over here- once they take a 3 year break before the release of Go Let It Out they're nearly totally forgotten. It's a shite state of affairs- but this is the life Ive chosen.

we want to hear songs that haven't been overplayed. for example, for one night i'd like to see them leave out songs 1-6 (fuckin in the bushes, r&r star, bring it on down, supersonic, morning glory, columbia), scyho, don't look back in anger, and live forever (yes, i said live forever- it's a fuckin amazing song, but after playing it nearly every single concert since 1994, don't you get bored of hearing it? i do.) and cigarettes and alcohol.
why not play stuff like slide away, sunday morning call, dykwim, stay young, sad song (especially because of the release in september), some might say, step out or 2 songs they have never played live: the fame and flashbax? it'd also be nice to hear them play digsy's dinner.
i know i'll get shit for saying this.

you are joking? what about people who are going to see oasis for the 1st time. they wanna hear songs like live forever. cos if i didnt hear them play live forever live id ask for my money back..
digsys dinner and stay young are terrible songs. and sunday morning call is hardly a lively song.
i think the set list is quite good.

are you real?! this song has to be played cause i'm pretty sure it means so much to every real oasis fan!
i agree that they should at least add d'you know what i mean though cause it sounds so simple and yet amazing live. i also miss some might say and a pair of other numbers from BHN-stand by me & be here now. i'd also exchange songbird & morning glory for go let it out & gas panic!
but otherwise the setlist is great!

New songs-
A Bell Will Ring reminded me of Tomorrow Never Knows. I really liked it, sounds like it'll be psychedelic when recorded.
The Meaning Of Soul was mental. It starts and ends really abruptly and could well be the fastest song they've done. It sounded weak to be honest but you couldn't really hear it that well as it was such a thrash.
The bootleg will be very interesting.
