Oasis star Liam Gallagher could face up to two years in prison after losing his two front teeth in a bar brawl.
The wildman singer is being investigated after allegedly assaulting a German policeman in the bust-up in a smart Munich hotel at the weekend.
The band’s management had said he and four other members of their entourage were caught up in an “unprovoked” attack on Saturday night.
But German police said today that the Oasis camp had been involved in a scuffle among themselves which escalated.
Two of the band’s shows in Germany have already been postponed because of the incident.
Liam’s facial injuries could curtail his ability to sing for some time to come, and the possibility of a custodial sentence could have an impact on the band’s future.
Liam and the band’s drummer Alan White were among five members of the entourage caught up in the brawl in a nightclub at the Bayerischer Hof hotel.
A statement issued on behalf of Oasis said: “Several members of Oasis and their entourage were the victims of an unprovoked attack by a group of youths in a Munich club ... where they were during their European tour.
“Liam Gallagher sustained facial injuries, including several broken teeth, while two of the group’s security guards were forced to seek hospital treatment, one after being knocked unconscious.
“The attackers left the scene before police arrived.”<br>
However, police today gave a different story.
They said that according to an eye witness, an altercation broke out between members of the Oasis group.
“In the course of this fight, one of the musicians was jostled, and fell on to the table of other guests, a group of five Italians,” the police statement said.
The Italians then became involved in the scuffle.
Security staff managed to break up the fight but brawling broke out again at the hotel entrance.
“Hotel staff contacted the police, who were at the scene within a few minutes. One of the officers was kicked in the chest with full force by Liam G , the front-man of the band, and suffered minor injuries.
“The police arrested five people – three band members and two of their security people. They were accused of dangerous bodily harm, resisting police, damage to property and disturbing the peace.
Police said they underwent blood tests “on the grounds of their drunken state”.
One of the band’s security men was hospitalised.
“The investigations of the criminal police continue,” the police statement added.
If convicted of charges relating to the assault he could face a two-year sentence, according to local reports.
The Oasis management paid around £60,000 (€93.8m) to bail Gallagher from his police cell.
The Munich prosecutor’s office said the money could be kept as a fine if there is a prosecution and conviction.
Liam has been in trouble with police repeatedly since the band found fame. He has been cautioned for both drug possession and assault and a number of cases have been investigated and then later dropped.
The singer had again recently fallen out with brother Noel, the band’s guitarist, and they had not been on speaking terms.
