FFS the dixie chicks? I thought America hated them I didn't think it was ever possible, but yes, the grammys were more boring than last year.

they didn't deserve all of the awards they were given. john mayer, rhcp, hell even justin timberlake put out better releases over the past year.

Obviously not going off of that statement I've listened (painfully) to all of John Mayer's album and its crap just like all the rest. I know he's banging Jessica Simpson at the moment, but that doesn't deserve a grammy RHCP double disc was about 20 mediocre songs too long And I don't even have to defend myself with that JT comment

just watched their documentry shut up and sing. totaly amazing the way so many people would round on 3 musicians. its one thing to throw away their CD's and never to listen to them again. But to hate them so much just because they don't like the president is astonishing. it also showed there togetherness and makes me appreciate the album even more. been listening to home as well beautiful album.

I take it one of them had a go at dubya and lots of people in the south who were probably fans of their music before that, turned on them because of it?

Natalie (the singer) made some negative comments about GW while in the UK I don't know how much it really hurt them I think they had been treated the worst by the "country" roots that they came from with that comment, and the fact that this album was a bit "rockier" than the country western norm I really didn't give a shit and bought the album Glad I did too

she said
"Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
there songs were banned from country radio. bins were put out so people could throw away there dixie chicks albums.
there was also a death threat against Natalie saying she would be shot at a specific gig.

Personally I think what they said about the president was the only decent thing ever to come out of their mouths, I find their music, well, shite! I do find it really pathetic the outcry about what they said though.

Basically the Dixie Chicks up until now were a country and western band, played on country and western radio stations. The vast majority of people who listen to those stations/that type of music tend to be from the south/southwest, very patriotic, very conservative and very proud of a good ol' Texas man in the White House. Now, the main reason so much crap went down after that comment was the fact that the Dixie Chicks ran their mouth in London, which to many people seemed like a real cheapshot.
Basically the Dixie Chicks bit the hand that fed them, you know what I mean? Now that their music has a bit more of a rock n' roll edge they can join the soft rock/pop/top 40 stations and rant on about Bush all they want, but REAL country musicians don't do that kinda crap!
* The opinions expressed in this post do not reflect the actual attitude or opion of the poster, meanstreak. All views are simply stated in explanation of the Dixie Chicks controversy. Meanstreak does ,and always has, think the Dixie Chicks are crap. He will continue with this viewpoint until lionsden PM's him with some links to some tunes that are freakin' sweet enough to change his mind. Thank you for listening, that is all. *

As for you dixie chicks have gone soft rock there is very little difference between taking the long way and home. also what makes a real country musician?

Eagles, Dixie Chicks open LA's Nokia Theatre Venue will anchor new downtown entertainment complex
The Eagles and the Dixie Chicks played the opening night of Los Angeles' brand new Nokia Theatre yesterday (October 18).
The inaugural show is the first in the bands' six-night run at the 7,100-seat venue, which many believe will help revitalise LA's downtown area.
"What's going on now (in LA) is very interesting. You're seeing downtown matter in new ways," Eagles' Don Henley told the sold-out crowd, who danced throughout both sets.
The Eagles played several classic tracks as well as Henley's 'Boys Of Summer'.
The Dixie Chicks focused on their newest material, including the controversial 'Not Ready To Make Nice'.
The Nokia Theatre is located next to the Staples Center (home to the Grammy Awards) and will anchor a massive LA Live entertainment centre that will include nightclubs, restaurants, a cinema and a Ritz Carlton Hotel.
Upcoming performances at the Nokia Theatre include Neil Young, Tori Amos and Aretha Franklin.
