We've done it with Oasis, now lets do it with AMs:
Post your favourite lines of lyrics from the Arctic Monkeys and why you like it/what it means to you...

Oh okay, if you insist...
"And I've asked everyone, I'm beginning to think I imagined you all along" - great song, the lyric refers to someone close to you who has changed.
"I wanna brick by brick by brick" - up there with Alex's greatest lyrics, has a different meaning to everyone, absolutely sublime.

you were 8 years too early, Beady’s Here Now... this thread was just WAITING for the brilliance of AM, my favorite is "wanna be your vacuum cleaner, breathing in your dust" -- sexy right? and "let me be the portable heater that you'll get cold without" seriously tho that one I kinda like until summer anyway then that's not so appealing

So who's that girl there? I wonder what went wrong so that she had to roam the streets. She don't do major credit cards I doubt she does receipts, It's all not quite legitimate. And what a scummy man, just give him half a chance I bet he'll rob you if he can. Can see it in his eyes, yeah that he's got a driving ban amongst some other offences. And I've seen him with girls of the night and he told Roxanne to put on her red light. They're all infected but he'll be alright cause he's a scumbag don't you know. I said he's a scumbag, don't you know!
Such an epic intro to a song!

The lyrics to Piledriver Waltz are probably my favourite of his.

She's got a Barbarella silver swimsuit And when she needs to shelter from reality she takes a dip in my daydreams
Alex Turner is one of the best lyricists. He was hyped up from the get-go, but he has an excellent way with words. From the wise cracks jokes, to his imaginative/surreal depictions, to the everyday observations, he has it down. The words just flow naturally too, it isn't like he is overly stuffing in extra details very talented.
His lyrics and the band's overall energy, make Arctic Monkey's one of the best rock n' roll bands in the world.

old yellow bricks is probably one of my favourite monkeys songs: "who want to sleep in a city that never wakes up, blinded by nostalgia" "you are a fugitive, but you don't know who you're running away from"
brillant.

Alex is better than that, I actually love most of his lyrics, can't really poke fun. usually even his 'silly' ones are clever and just make me smile

It feels like she's just nowhere near You could well be out on your ear This thought comes closely followed by the fear And the thought of it, makes you feel a bit Ill
--------
Yeah I'm sorry I was late But I missed the train And then the traffic was a state And I can't be arsed to carry on in this debate That reoccurs, oh when you say I don't care But of course I do, yeah I clearly do!
-------
I guess what I’m trying to say is I need the deep end, Keep imagining meeting, wished away entire lifetimes Unfair we’re not somewhere misbehaving for days Great escape, lost track of time and space She’s a silver lining climbing on my desire And I go crazy cause here isn’t where I wanna be And satisfaction feels like a distant memory And I can’t help myself all I, wanna hear her say is “R U Mine?”
------
She's a certified mind blower, knowing full well that I don't May suggest there's somewhere from which you might know her Just to get the ball to roll Drunken monologues, confused because It's not like I'm falling in love I just want you to do me no good And you look like you could

Both sides, in softly came the growl from both sides And if his whisper splits the mist Just think of what he's capable of with his kiss
Nice try, you cannot turn away but nice try Turned your legs to little building blocks And with his index finger flicks you on your socks
I'll go high pitched, he'll talk and make your voice sound high pitched Dread to think if he got you on your own And whispered in your ear in that baritone
It's the same stone, his heart was cut out of the same stone That they used to calve his jaw, it's impossible not to feel inferior

"My Mistakes Were Made For You"
About as subtle as an earthquake, I know, My mistakes were made for you. And in the backroom of the bad dream, she came, And whisked me away, enthused.
And we're just following the flock, Around and in-between, Before we're smashed to smithereens Like they were, then we scramble from the blame And it's the fame that put words in her mouth, She couldn't help, but spit them out. Innocence and arrogance entwined, In the filthiest of minds
for me, the best song of the album

"The band were fuckin' wank and I'm not 'avin a nice time" - Fake Tales Of San Francisco
So, so English. This was the Arctic Monkeys I loved.
"What came first, the chicken or the dickhead?" - Pretty Visitors
Always makes me chuckle that one, fantastic song aswell.
"But it's reyt 'ard to remember that on a day like today" - Mardy Bum
Brings back so many good memories.
"Dancin' to electro pop like a robot from 1984"
- I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor
I don't know why I love this one so much.
"He told Roxanne to put on her red light" - When The Sun Goes Down
Gotta love a Police reference there.
"You're not from New York City you're from Rotherham!" - Fake Tales Of San Francisco
Up there with my favourite song lyrics of all time.

The Colour Of The Trap
I know it's not AM, but Alex and Miles wrote it together... It's just sort of one that can fit several situations. To me, I always think of the lyrics to that song when it's half 4 in the morning, you're with someone that you just care so fucking much about (whether it's a friend, love interest, family member, etc), and you're both pretty fucked... You're trying to tell them something that you can't quite put into words. "Wish you'd just get it together and read my mind"
No matter who I'm with, I will ALWAYS sing that song to whoever I end my night out with.

Gareth Campesinos! is miles ahead of Alex Turner. I still stand by that. And Los Campesinos are far superior than the Arctic Monkeys, too. Yup.
