Pet Sounds is pretty much a top 5 Pop album of all time in terms of quality songwriting and influence. Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows are both two of the top 100 songs of all time, which is pretty impressive. Probably in the top 50 as well if you broke it down that far. Good Vibrations makes the cut as well. That said, I'm not that big on the Beach Boys. Wilson is a genius, although he's a mad one whose come up with he's own fair share of shitty material. Their early stuff is fun for what it is, but I kinda just get tired of their voices. I know people adore the beach boys and their harmonies but sometimes they sound like white square boy barbershop group and they just annoy the fuck out of me. WEEE WOOO AHHHH. Mike Love is also a big time tool. I'm not gonna say they are the most overrated group of all time, because they aren't but they'd probably make my personal top 5. I love a good amount of their songs and while I'm amazed by Pet Sounds when i do listen to it, its not really an album that I love. I really honestly recommend listening to the Smile sessions Cast. Really shows what a pioneer and perfectionist Wilson was in the studios - like being in the studio with them. My respect for the man went up tenfold, but tinged with sadness knowing what seemed like a certified masterpiece was never completed. Ah yes great recommendation matt. Back in 2011 Smile was released it really blew me away. Such a gorgeous record, and I love when the Beach Boys do their chamber pop thing. Its really really good as well. That Pet Sounds are pretty much the only two projects that I listen to regularly by the Beach Boys. I can appreciate Wilson's studio madness, hell that's probably the aspect I like the most about them, its just I'll probably never love the Beach Boys. That said I think I'll spin Surf's Up, what a beautiful song.

He "might" learn something from them. I also enjoy Dennis Wilson's solo album. Pacific Ocean Blue is a brilliant album! Shame he died so young and Brian went off it, leaving Mike Love to fuck everything up.
