U2 have knocked EMINEM from No1 in the American album charts and are now top of the pile in 34 countries.
The group’s latest album, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, followed its success in the UK by shooting straight to No1 in the US.
The CD has sold almost twice as many copies as the Irish band’s last album, All That You Can’t Leave Behind.
At the last count it had been snapped up by more than 840,000 fans.
The massive sales were more than enough to end the Real Slim Shady’s three-week domination of the chart with his LP Encore.
