From Radio 1:-
Franz Ferdinand win Nationwide Mercury Prize 2004
Franz Ferdinand have won the the 2004 Nationwide Mercury Prize.
They recieved their cheque from last years winner Dizzee Rascal.
Earlier they mused what they would do with the prize money if they won
Mercury nominees Franz Ferdinand are performing at the ceremony tonight - they weren't aware there's also £20,000 prize money and when they found out they started musing about what they'd do with the dosh if they won:
I didn't know we got money. Do you know what I'd really like to do? I'd really like to buy the old jail in Glasgow."
"We rehearse in this kind of dilapidated old jail and it would be nice to turn it into a rehabilitation programme or something like that."
"What is worth winning a prize like this? A couple of grand or something? Not enough to buy a jail. Let's fix the roof, let's get nominations for the roof to be fixed."
Colin Murray's hosting a Mercury special tonight on Radio from 9pm and Briggy will be there filling everyone in with the news and talking to some of the nominees.
