guitarists? anyway, he indeed was a good kid, but he could never really sing a song well.
i love the scene where he's gettin hit by a can in the face after shouting "you faggots" to the crowd in dallas 1978. even though he got hit very badly and his chin and his chest were full of blood he just laughed and continued playing.

and the most bizarre thing is: in february 1979, a party was held at the home of his new girlfriend michelle robinson to celebrate his release from prison. during his time at Rikers Island prison, vicious had undergone drug rehabilitation therapy, and was supposedly "clean". However, at the party, he was able to obtain some heroin supplied by his mother, Ann Beverley, herself an ex-addict!! (and was discovered dead the following morning, having taken a large overdose.)

Sid Vicious 'played' bass.
Well actually he tried to look like he was playing the bass but mostly, he thumped away on one string when he wasn't busy carving up his chest with switchblades.
He may have been the poster boy for the nihilistic punk movement but he was a shit musician who added nothing to the overall sound of the Pistols.
I used to like his version of My Way but I listened to it recently and it was bloody awful.
The only good thing that ever came out of his life was the movie Sid and Nancy.
That Hung guy from American Idol has more musical talent then Sid.
My fucking cat is a better bassist.
Even Malcolm McLaren himself was a better singer.
I loved the Pistol's energy.
And I am eternally grateful to Lydon, as Liam has used/borrowed his snarl to such a great effect on so many Oasis classics.
But Sid as 'one of the best electric guitar players in history', come on you must be joking...the only thing Sid was best at was shooting up smack.

I thought the first rule for being in a punk band was 'to know nothing about music'. So i don't see why y'all r complaining about how bad sid vicious was at playing bass. However, there's no doubt about the fact that the pistols are one of the most influential bands in music, just like nirvana...  |

sid was a sad fucked up child who was drafted in to the pistols by malcolm mclaren because of the way he looked!
even then he was a junky thanks to the american groupie nancy.
he never played a note on the nevermind the bollocks album and he killed that foul creature nancy who is your modern day courtney love.
the sex pistols were the band that changed the face of music as we know it and you cant do that without talent.
sid had no musical talent. he was a victim who went to jail and got raped. his story is a sad one and like kobain who had raw talent an all the rest of the poor junkies a predictable one.
you want to know about the punk scene then ask me. i was there when it first happened.
or try reading a fucking book or two you lazy bastards.
sid was just a clothes horse that sold t-shirts for viv westwood! nothing more.

They were both destined to kill themselves because they were pathetic. What's good about bands like Oasis and people like Johnny Rotten, is that they are the opposite of these pitiful figures, who have everything in the world, but still find a reason to whinge. |

True. The Sex Pistols were (in Noel Gallaghers own words) BIG TIME FUN. I personnaly cannot listen to Nirvana anymore because it just reminds me of suicide/death, i prefer to live while im alive if you know what I mean and not listen to these self pitying songs i.e All Apologies / Rape Me. Kurt was a good musician, and I respect him totally as a musician, but, he was fucked in the head, he couldn't handle the fame. Thats the difference between Britain and America..... Over here in England bands like Oasis were always going to succeed because we love songs that get us going, that put us in a good mood. For some reason in America ( And I'm not slagging every american, as i know you lot are Oasis fans) you seem to love depressing bands / songs. I mean Nirvana, come on, were so fucking depressing it was unbelievable to me that they actually got anywhere in th UK. I know there live shows were amazing and unique but at the same time depressing. Thats why I love Oasis because we all know life is shite but at the end of the day when I listen to an Oasis song it brightens my day. Britain just breeds good time bands:
The Beatles / The Stones / Sex Pistols / The Jam / Oasis etc..
America
Nirvana
Slipknot
Nickelcrack
Korn
Linkin Park
etc.....
I know i've missed a lot of american bands out e.g chili peppers. But if you can understand what im trying to say that I wish some of you yanks would pick up a guitar and write some classic rock tunes that make you punch the air.
I personally cannot wait until the day a black american picks up the guitar and learns from Hendrix.
I know i mite have gone off the subject a little here.
So to any aspiring songwriter out there I'll leave you with this: Always look on the bright side of life.

kobain/nirvan introduced mainstream punk rock to mass america 20 years after the sex pistols.
it took time.
kobain was a massive loss of musical talent, so dont dismiss him as a junky who deserved what he got!
he had a real deathwish and i hated that shit before he died and i hate the pathetic cults since.
when cobain died we lost great music to come from a true american star who was close to his best.
when elvis, morrison,hendrix, etc died they were all well past the sell by date.
with kobain, the best was yet to come.
courtney sucked the life right out of him. leach.
sid.no talent friend of johnny rotten. never wrote a note or played a note on any sex pistols album. strangely, america saw sid as the face of the pistols? poor sad boy.

I always thought that Sid played alot of the music in the pistols, cos you see him in all of the videos him playing violently on the guitar! Why did the pistols only make one album them? Is it cos Sid died or Johnny wanted to leave?  |
