What happened to them anyway? I never hear anything about this lot. Does Richard Ashcroft still release solo stuff? is it any good? And what about 'the Shining' ? have you ever heard of them? Apparently Simon JOnes and Simon Tong formerly of the Verve are in this band... I saw Oasis in Toronto as part of the HC tour and as i was entering the gate there were a couple blokes handin out free EPs of the Shining... it contained three demos of which one was pretty good, so did they ever release an album or what? ? ? any info on this subject would be cool thank you very much

I think Richard Ashcroft is working on some new solo stuff - not sure when it will come out.
its a shame the Verve couldn't stay together as a band -how many times did they break up?
urban hymns is a great album and got overlooked in all the bhn hype that year.

The Shining did release an album (called True Skies?) but it wasn't that good. They started out as John Squire's project with the Verve-two, but didn't work out so they released the album they'd done without him but only after they split up completely. Don't know what Simon Jones is doing nowadays, and the last I've heard about Nick McCabe was he's living in Spain producing some electronic music, strange...

Right, they had loads of good songs, some of 'em ended as b-sides as well! All that jamming, looseness, they had it.

Propably Urban Hymns if you prefer songs, 'cos that's almost entirely written by Ashcroft, the first two have quite a psychedelic band feel on 'em. Hymns is easiest by far.

when i think of the verve, i think of richard ashcroft bumping through a crowded street in the music vid of bittersweet symphony. urban hymns is top quality.

Yeah. 'Urban Hymns' for the bittersweet pop songs and 'A Northern Soul' for the rocking anthems. If you fancy a bit of zeppelin-esque space rock however, check out 'A Storm In Heaven' their first album.
