Yea Im sure there's a thread about this band in this forum already but Im a newbie when it comes to them. I heard Love Spreads and I've become an instant fan. Any albums or songs in particular you think I should have a look at? Thanks for your help.

the shame is that nothing really compares to their debut album..they had the potential to make it big. second coming is enjoyable in parts but everything else slides too much into electro nonsense..

love spreads got me into them aswell, class song.
listen to:
i wanna be adored (my fav) ten storey love song she bangs the drums i am the resurection this the one waterfall fools gold
just a few, they should be enough to be getting on with. The album you have to own is the debut one, no question. Second coming, as chocco said is good in places to but its a bit over produced and considering it took 5 years it should have been much better.Tell us what you think after...

They are an amazing band. You can't really beat their debut which is one of the greatest albums ever. The drumming is amazing and the basslines are fantastic and Squire is one of the greatest guitarists of his time and the vocals are something special.
The second album throws people quite a bit because the debut is just so amazing and the second one has a whole new direction but breaking into heaven is one of the best intros on any album (appart from maybe I wanna be adored)

just buy the first album and listen to the last track and marvel at the guitar solo!
every track bar the backward crap is solid gold.
then buy the other albums and enjoy moments of what could have been but never was.
they had the singer, the guitarist and the bass player of the ninties and they totally blew it straight out of their arses!
wasted talent.
what could have been could have been the greatest band of that decade, bar nirvana.
arseholes.
wasters.

Anyone heard the remix album? It's a major cash in but theres some great tunes on there. I agree they did blow it bigstyle their first album was out of this world and the second was quite good but when a drummer of that quality and a guitarist of that quality leaves then theres no way you can really go on.
Also anyone got any of the Seahorses stuff? It's suprisingly good the first album especially.

the shame is that nothing really compares to their debut album..they had the potential to make it big. second coming is enjoyable in parts but everything else slides too much into electro nonsense.. choco - i'm very surprised you arent very impressed with Second Coming, yet you love Be Here Now? to me, those albums share a lot of common traits. They're both far too long, over-produced and over blown. Also both are lyrically dodgy and drug-influenced I just thought you'd like both albums. Personaly i think Second Coming is great - baffles me how people give it such a hard time. Some of the guitar work is amazing. and 'Ten Storey Love Song', 'how do you sleep' and 'love spreads' are all as good as anything on their first album driving south and daybreak are two of my fave roses songs... i really love the album! The Roses are a great band. Anyone who likes Oasis will like the roses first album. Just go out and buy it - no excuses! ;D and buy the second one if you like your guitar...

its quite paradox i must admit... the thing with BHN is it had/s good melodies packed in walls of guitars and - u know - that voice....
i was probably a bit too critical..yet the melodies are not that striking....it's a fine album still esp in comparison to that other shit thats been released in those days..as i said: they could've made it [/i]really big

whats with the tracklisting on the complete stone roses album??
the first 8 songs are largely poor (with the notable exception of sally cinamon, which is class)
but most of them are crap - especially that backwards one...my god, that is unlistenable. the album only gets going at 'made of stone'
It is excellent from there. But their debut album gives a much better indication of their talents
PS. why oh why did they use such a crap version of 'i am the resurrection' on the complete stone roses??

So you don't like 'The hardest thing in the world" and "elephant stone"? weird.
the other ones in the first 8 are ok but the ones above are pretty good.
i won't argue with a Wilco fan ;D

So you don't like 'The hardest thing in the world" in a word - no yeah elephant stone is pretty good - but compared to the songs from the debut album? its not up to the same level. Sally cinamon is the only one that compares, imo buy the debut album, cheapskate ;D
