WILCO singer JEFF TWEEDY has entered a CHICAGO rehab centre to tackle an addiction to painkillers.
The release of the group's latest album, 'A Ghost Is Born' has been moved from June 8 to June 22 in the US, "to accommodate (Tweedy's) recovery", according to a spokesperson.
According to a statement released by Wilco: "Reports of Wilco's Jeff Tweedy entering rehab for treatment of a painkiller addiction are true. The treatment follows a well-documented history of Tweedy's battle with migraine headaches. To accommodate his recovery, Nonesuch has officially moved the [UK] release date of Wilco's 'A Ghost Is Born' from June 7 to June 21."
The singer's struggle was evident in the footage of 'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart' - the Wilcodocumentary which followed the recording of 2002's 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' LP.
Tweedy is seen becoming sick to his stomach from a migraine while trying to mix the track 'Heavy Metal Drummer'.
It is unknown whether Wilco will be heading out on the road to fulfil their North American touring schedule.
The dates scheduled so far are
Columbia Blue Note (21 April) New Orleans Orpheum (23) Austin Stubb's (24-25) Santa Fe Lensic Theatre (27) Flagstaff Orpheum (28) Tucson, AZ, Rialto Theatre (29) Indio Coachella Festival (May 1) Pittsburgh Three Rivers Arts Festival (6) Poughkeepsie The Chance (7) Manchester Bonnaroo Festival (11)
