Metallica launch download site for fans Metallica are setting up a download site so fans can enjoy recordings from their latest tour. The band play the first leg of a North American tour in Phoenix tonight, and NME reports unedited recordings will be available four days after the gigs from LiveMetallica.com. Drummer Lars Ulrich said: "This is the next logical step in a process that began back in 1991 when we first implemented the 'Taper Section' at our shows, where the fans were encouraged to bring in their own gear to record the show, and then take home their very own 'bootleg' of the concert they had just seen. "This technology will enable our fans to get the best possible recording of the show, without having to hold a microphone in the air for the entire night." The audio files will be available as MP3s for $9.95 (£5.30p) or FLAC files for $12.95 (£6.90p). Fans will also get a printable booklet and labels in case they want to burn their own CDs................. gee why didn't I think of that

fuck metallica! fuck them with big fecking bells on.
those bastards went from hardcore to hard dollar.
remember this - THEY KILLED NAPSTER! the best music library in the world with a global community that was preserving live oasis gigs from around the world.
record industry puppets finding a new way to milk the fan.
i would be appalled if liam and noel did something as cynical as this.
bootlegs dont impact on record sales, i have every official release by oasis.
metallica are wankers! when they die they will go to rock n roll hell and spend eternity jamming with cliff richard doing "summer holiday"
a fitting end.

You can see where they were coming from when they were against Napster though. They weren't making the money that they were entitled to from their music. I'm sure you wouldn't want someone stealing from you just so they did't have to buy it in the shops. It's not like there are no other places to get music for free anyway.
Bootlegs don't impact record sales, maybe so, but it would be cool to get a soundboard boot with quality covers from a gig you had been too. If oasis did this I'm sure fans would buy some, and others would continue to trade audience boots etc like the moment. So this effects nothing it just gives fans more opportunity to experience their music.

then that means that there is hard cash to be made from hardcore fans who want bootlegs, thus sites that give away live concerts will be served court orders and ultimately closed down!
this is bullshit the more i think about it.
something you buy from the bands website aint a bootleg???
its a cd without them being arsed having to press it or printing the cover.
pay for it if you want to pal, make that record industry that has ripped you off for years even more richer OR
just say fuck them and find new ways to download live concerts on the net.
the searching is half of the fun.
