is it true that the direction of the album changed after they heard "permission to land" by the darkness?

Is it just me or does anybody think also that the Vines aren't as good live...I liked their first album alot but some of the live shows that i've dl'ed of them off of kazaa gives me the impression that they arent that great live...I know kazaa isnt exactly like being their but it isnt too hard to notice the dropoff..And also their frontman seems to go nuts after each set...Good music though! In the Factory is a great song...

Since the album has just came out officially...I havent bought it yet...I've read all the mixed reviews about it on the internet and various publications but i was wondering...what do you guys personally think about the album if you;ve heard it already? I thought Highly Evolved was mega (Homesick, The Factory being standout tracks fer me...)but what about winning days? Is it worth the tenner?

I bought Winning Days at Best Buy for $8 because i actually grew to like Highly Evolved especially songs like Get Free, Autumn Shade, Highly Evolved and to say I was dissapointed would be a big understatement.
Ride- Not very interesting, basically just the same words being repeated over and over with lots of yelling and a terrible solo
Animal Machine- starts off interesting with a good riff and drum beat but then degenerates into more yelling and noise... ok i guess but not memorable at all except for the opening riff
TV Pro- more yelling but this yelling is melodic! However there arent very many lyrics just lalala's and dadada's...sounds like lazy songwriting to me even if it is the most catchy song on the album.
Autumn Shade II- meandering song with no real melody or meaning...looking at the autumn shade indeed..very forgettable and not even close to as good as the original
Evil Town- this song has about 15 words in it and makes no sense and with no real melody...instantly forgetable.
Winning Days- a nice acoustic based song very refreshing compared to the noisy mess around it, with good vocals and a good solo.
She's Got Something To Say To Me- ok song, nothing really special or anything that stands out. just an album track, not bad, not special either.
Rainfall- another nice acoustic based song. the vines do these better than their harder stuff.
Amnesia- slow, acoustic led song, but not interesting or melodic, just boring. Easy song to skip
Sun Child- another acoustic led song, this one better than most of the rest of the album with a halfway decent solo, just a nice track if a little long.
FTW- just a stupid song Fuck the World Fuck the World Fuck The world Fuck the world. YELL YELL YELL. Theres the song.
All in all hugely disappointing, i wished i had read some reviews on it before i bought it as most i've seen have not been very good either, except one in the Washington Post which gave it an A-. I don't see it mate, i dont see it
