Morrissey is to play a one off concert in his home town of Manchester at the MEN Arena. The concert, on Saturday, May 22, will be his first in Manchester for 12 years and his first in the UK since 2002. The former Smiths frontman is expected to showcase songs from his first album in seven years, You Are The Quarry, due on Sanctuary Records' Attack! imprint on May 17. The album will be preceded by the single, Irish Blood, English Heart, on May 10. Tickets for the concert go on sale on Saturday, February 28, at 9.30am. Support at the gig will come from Franz Ferdinand and Damien Dempsy. A new photograph of the 44-year-old singer dressed like a 1920s' gangster wearing a pin-stripped suit, white shirt and tie and pointing a machine gun, has been posted at at his official website. According to www.morrisseymusic.com, Morrissey's first album since 1997's Maladjusted is "nearing completion" at a recording studio in Los Angeles.
