Rotten turn for punk
Did someone mention cranky British performers?
To the dismay of aging punk fans, Reuters reports that a British television company announced this week that former Sex Pistols singer and angry punk icon Johnny Rotten - now known by his real name, John Lydon - has agreed to appear in the reality show I'm a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!, perhaps heralding the last gasp of punk.
Punk fans are appalled.
"The announcement made me feel instantly old. . . . If it has come to this for the prince of punk, then mediocrity really does get us all in the end," Lee Randall writes in the Scotsman newspape

its for charity i dont think he's sold out, hes doing a good thing. Apparently all the other celbritys are fyling first class and he's going on a cheaper flight and giving the money saved to charity. I dont think he's doing it to further himself, just for charity.

ROTTEN TOLD DON'T BE FOUL John Lydon - AKA punk legend Johnny Rotten - has been warned to watch his mouth during his stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me out Of Here.
Producers fear the former Sex Pistols frontman, famous for his colourful language, could be a little too blue for prime time TV.
The show will be broadcast from the Aussie jungle on a 15 minute delay so all swearing can be bleeped out.
But John and glamour model Jordan have both been told to mind their language anyway.
A show insider told The Sun newspaper: "Everyone knows what Jordan's like when she's had a drink. She's very funny but even she admits she's no angel. John Lydon's reputation speaks for itself."
John has described the show as "mainstream rubbish", adding "I'm gonna be stuck in a cats' p**s environment for two weeks."
But if ex-Atomic Kitten Kerry McFaden's recent foul-mouthed tirade is anything to go by, the wrong contestants have been targeted for censure.
Talking about the bushtucker trials the contestants have to endure, she said: "I absolutely s**t myself seeing what they had to do. I'm absolutely petrified of everything. I haven't got a f*****g clue how I'm going to deal with that."
Contestants will arrive in Queensland by the end of the week and spend the weekend being pampered in a posh hotel before the show begins on Monday.

me, i am really excited about it and shall be taping every episode.
rotten said that he is doing it because everyone around him told him not to do it.
i think it will be really interesting tv and i hope that the general public will at last get a proper taste of johnnys brutal honesty.
modern music owes this man and the band that he was in a huge debt for changing the face of modern music as we now know it.
i have been looking forward to this show for weeks now.
vote rotten.
as for jordan, i know she gets a lot of seedy publicity but according to people around her she is supposed to be a really nice person. so we shall soon see.

I think rotten is doing what hes always done and gone against the majoritys belief. Nobody would expect him to do this in a million years, so he's gone and done it. Thats what makes him so refreshing. All these punks dont like it, because its to 'mainstream' but he says fuck it, i'm gonna shock all my fans.
And i know what he'd say to all the 40 year old 'punk' fans. Fuck You.

yeh i agree, espescially about peter aundre. He just has no personality what so ever he just bores me.
I spent most of it though wondering, why kerry is actually doing it, She looked teryfied just when she was being told about what neil ruddock and Jordan had to do imagine what she'll be like when she has to do it.

JOHN LYDON’s antics on ‘I’M A CELEBRITY… GET ME OUT OF HERE!’ have fuelled a rise in sales for the SEX PISTOLS.
According to Virgin Megastores, sales of the Pistols’ 1977 album 'Never Mind The Bollocks' have risen by 20% - around a thousand extra sales in under a week.
Virgin Megastore spokesman Simon Dornan said: "We have seen a big rise in sales in the Pistols thanks to all the massive publicity which has surrounded the show."

ITV1 has apologised after punk icon JOHN LYDON was heard swearing live on reality show I'M A CELEBRITY... GET ME OUT OF HERE'.
The Sex Pistols singer, joint favourite to win the contest, launched a verbal tirade as presenters Ant and Dec announced he had survived the latest eviction vote. Athlete Diane Modahl became the second person to be voted off the show.
After Lydon's outburst, presenter Dec Donnelly told viewers: "We are very sorry for that. It's a live show. We are incredibly sorry."
An ITV1 spokeswoman said: "It was a live broadcast so was unpreventable."
She added: "We apologise for any offence caused. It is a hazard of live shows and obviously we ask people not to swear or say anything inappropriate."
Lydon is still the bookmakers' favourite to win the contest, followed by glamour model Jordan.
Contestants, also including ex-Premiership footballer Neil Ruddock and former pop star Peter Andre, are spending up to 15 nights in a remote camp in the Australian rainforest to raise money for charity.
Meanwhile, Virgin Megastores in the UK report that sales of The Sex Pistols’ seminal punk album ‘Never Mind The Bollocks…’ are now up an incredible 184% on this time last week thanks to Lydon’s appearance on the show.
Simon Dornan of Virgin Megastores says: "We’re seeing a major punk revival as sales soar across the country. Music buyers, especially ‘the kids’, are keen to find out what the fuss is all about when people talk about ‘Johnny Rotten’".
He added: "What we all tend to forget is that the rise of punk and the Pistols started nearly 30 years ago and their influence is felt now more than ever. Maybe people have finally had enough of bland boy bands and 'Pop Idol'."
