The Darkness Permission to Land Top 50 albums of 2003 / Darkness review:
You've heard it all before, but never in such an overstuffed combination: the boogie-march guitars of Thin Lizzy and AC/DC, the earnest machismo of the young Def Leppard, the helium-soprano acrobatics of Freddie Mercury, the brassy vocal-harmony flair of Manic Street Preachers. Britain's band of the moment, the Darkness go backward in rock in all the right ways, all at once, on the best mid-Eighties album of 2003.
