Coldplay wrote a song for Johnny Cash but he died before he had chance to record the vocals.
Chris Martin said the band were massive fans of Cash who died earlier this year.
"We did a song for Johnny Cash," he told the band's official website.
"We recorded it with Rick Rubin and everything and all that was missing was his vocals. He was going to fly out to LA the week after he died. It's really sad."

And it looks like good old Chris is gonna be a daddy!
Associated Press
Gwyneth Paltrow and boyfriend Chris Martin are expecting their first child next summer, her publicist said Wednesday.
The couple were "pleased" to confirm the pregnancy, publicist Stephen Huvane said in a statement. He declined to say whether there were wedding plans.
The 31-year-old actress has been dating Martin, frontman for the British band Coldplay, for the past year. Both have been reticent about publicly discussing their relationship.
In a recent interview with the British Broadcasting Corp., Paltrow said she hopes to marry but wouldn't reveal whether that aspiration extended to the 26-year-old Martin.

coldplay are so fucking pale and i am very glad that johnny cash never got the time to record one of their drab little songs.
i bet he could have done a great version of "stay free" though.
still, its cool that you kids are opening up to the cash man.
what next? the mighty elvis presley!
