Controversial rock queen Courtney Love has been treated for a drugs overdose.

Love, the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, was found by police after being arrested for attempting to burgle a friend's house, it is reported.

She was taken to a Los Angeles hospital where she was treated before checking out several hours later.

"Officers were responding to a call for help," a Beverley Hills police spokesman said.

"The woman was under the influence of a controlled substance and had overdosed."

It was reported she had earlier been released on $2,500 by bail after admitting being under the influence of drugs following her arrest.
