Coldplay are heading the nominations for this year's Q Awards.
The double Brit winners are up for best band in the world as well as best single (for Clocks), best video (The Scientist) and best live performers in the magazine's annual celebration of the past year.
Up against the quartet for world's best act are Radiohead - an annual fixture in the category - as well as Blur, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on October 2.
Coldplay have exceeded their success in 2000 when their debut release Parachutes helped them to three nominations.
Despite making the Mercury Music Prize shortlist, the band - lead by Chris Martin - failed to get a mention in the best album category for their A Rush Of Blood To The Head LP.
Instead the prize will be fought for by Blur (Think Tank), Radiohead (Hail To The Thief), Feeder (Comfort In Sound), White Stripes (Elephant) and 50 Cent (Get Rich Or Die Tryin').
Blur tie with Muse on three nominations each. Muse are shortlisted for best single with Time Is Running Out, best video for the same track and the innovation award, while Blur's other nomination is for their production role alongside Ben Hillier on their album.
White Stripes, Radiohead, The Darkness, Electric Six and Christina Aguilera all pick up two nominations.
Q editor Paul Rees said: "The Q Awards are special because they're voted for by the people who matter most - real music fans. And this year they've recognised the excitement, breadth, history and inherent glamour of Q's world."
Nominations are as follows:
Best single - Christina Aguilera, Dirrty; White Stripes, 7 Nation Army; Muse, Time Is Running Out; Coldplay, Clocks; Electric Six, Danger, High Voltage.
Best album - Blur, Think Tank; Radiohead, Hail To The Thief; Feeder, Comfort In Sound; White Stripes, Elephant; 50 Cent, Get Rich Or Die Tryin'.
Best new act - The Darkness; The Thrills; Athlete; Kings Of Leon; The Rapture.
Best video - Electric Six, Gay Bar; Christina, Dirrty; Junior Senior, Move Your Feet; Coldplay, Scientist; Muse, Time Is Running Out.
Best producer - Pharrel Williams (Neptunes); Nigel Godrich (Radiohead); Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon); Dr Dre (50 Cent); Blur/Ben Hillier (Blur).
Best live act - Robbie Williams; Coldplay; The Darkness; Eminem; Queens Of The Stone Age.

a sad state of affairs! fuck coldplay! best bands i saw live this year were electric 6, queens and oasis. no time for wimp rock like coldplay or the megawimpy starsailor.
oasis wont get any more awards because they aint cool anymore, except for the lifetime achievement award in another 15 years time when liam is dying of testicular cancer.
