Songwriter dies of cancer
Warren Zevon, best known for his hit Werewolves of London, has died after battling cancer.
He recorded with Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Dave Gilmour and Bob Dylan during his three-decade career.
The 56-year-old has died of lung cancer a fortnight after his latest album The Wind entered the US top 20.
He fronted a REM minus Michael Stipe outfit to record a low-key release under the name the Hindu Love Gods.
Zevon touched upon his illness in his work since being diagnosed with mesothelioma - a lung cancer usually associated with asbestos - a year ago.
In the lyric of Please Stay on the new album he asks: "Will you stay with me to the end?".
And a greatest hits compilation Genius, issued last year, featured a skull smoking a pipe on the cover.
In the US he was best known for the songs Werewolves of London and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead.
In an interview with Billboard magazine last year he joked that he wanted to live long enough to see the latest James Bond film, Die Another Day, which was released at the tail end of 2002.
Zevon had been housebound due to his illness and his last recording session was done at home.

The docs had originally only given him a few months I think. He held out long enough to get his last album done- that's amazing.
