'Paul Weller Live: Two Classic Performances' **** 1/2
(YepRoc Records) Paul Weller looks like an odd throwback. In concert before thousands of faithful fans in London's Hyde Park, he sports sideburns that extend below his jaw line, a long paisley shirt with a Nehru collar and slick alligator skin shoes. While he may not look entirely in style, the one-time leader of the Style Council and punk-pop pioneers the Jam flaunts something that's still very much in vogue: a glorious White-soul voice and a sound that never feels outdated. This rich DVD not only features a fabulous, 25-song electric concert from Hyde Park, it also shows another side of the artist that's no less compelling in a second show, a 13-song acoustic set that features guests Noel Gallagher from Oasis and ace keyboardist Jools Holland. Toss in a fun interview with the artist and you have a package that's a steal at less than $20.
