ROBBIE BACKS OUR BOYS

Robbie Williams has made it clear he backs the troops in the Middle East and wants to see democracy brought to Iraq.

The singer was clarifying his position over a B-side track recorded for his next single Come Undone.

He said Happy Easter (War Is Coming) - due out on April 14 - was not anti-war.

Its release coincides with that of Madonna's American Life, which is accompanied by an uncompromising anti-war video.

Robbie said: "This song was written long before war began in Iraq and is categorically not a personal response to it.

"This is in no way, shape, or form, my statement against the war in Iraq. The song is just that - a song. If I were to write an anti-war song, the lyrics would be a lot more poignant.

"I am not pro-war but I fully support the troops that are out in Iraq and I support democracy for the Iraqi people."

He signed off the statement "Peace Man Robbie".

The title Happy Easter (War Is Coming) is a play on the John Lennon peace anthem Happy Xmas (War Is Over). His lyrics include the lines: "I won't go to war, lay down your guns, what are we fighting for?"
