look who's back ;D Our very[glow=red,2,300]first[/glow] forum member , great to see you.... Well the Hives are part of the whole "back to simple rock n roll " wave. They've got a cool look ( nothing new ) a Mick Jagger type singer and some good and simple punk guitar licks, that said I think bands like the Strokes and the Vines are deeper and play a little more complex music structures. All these bands offer a needed break from the boys and girls pop band overflow going on. I would download their stuff on Kazaa light , but the masters from the past (70's ,80's) have done it better before.........just read the bands influences.

Your spot on webmaster - nothing new, been done before, but at least they`re better than boy & girl bands. The Strokes are a much better band. You mentioned their influences too - i think a lot of the times, a band`s influences are better than the band themselves (not in the case of Oasis, obviously ) Do you know who the Hives influences are?

The rock music resurgence of 2002 differs musically quite drastically from the grunge phenomenon. Whereas much grunge drew primarily from punk music, this new breed of bands tend to have a much more splintered range of influences. Groups like The Strokes and The Hives have been heavily influenced by 50's,60's and 70's rock and roll bands like The Rolling Stones and Velvet Underground to name two. The Vines incorporate elements of the "UK pop" sound, with a somewhat more heavy, aggressive undertone. The White Stripes are all over the map stylistically, pulling influences from country, folk, blues, and punk music. The duo is even known to perform showtunes during live performances.

It will be interesting to see if any of these new bands have the longevity of some of the old rock bands that still have such a huge following.
Mattmightsay- I agree with you, the Strokes are better, and Oasis is still the best.
But anything is better then the pop stuff which saturates our radios, especially here in the states.....so over that phenomenon!!
