CASE AND POINT "SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE" EXCERPT..
~People tell me it's a sin To know and feel too much within. I still believe she was my twin, but I lost the ring. She was born in spring, but I was born too late Blame it on a simple twist of fate.

As much as I love Tom Waits, you can't beat Bob Dylan...you just can't.
Although in Tom's favor he's a much more consistent artist!

Bob's voice ... yeah, I know..... IT'S UNIQUE.. but remember that what his voice sounds like is essentially irrelevant --- he is a POET who happens to put his words to music... dig ??

Bob Dylan, he's one of the top 5 rock songwriters.... his voice is unique as tam says but can you imagine Like a Rolling Stone sung by a different person and being better? or Blowin in the wind, or Hurricane...

I LOVE his songs, but not his voice. I prefer Like a rolling stone by the rolling stones; knocking on heaven's door by GNR or even eric clapton; dear landlord by Janis (amazing!!), etc

I see...I agree for some songs like you said.. some covers are great ! ie. hendrix "all along the watchtower.." etc.. even the byrds "Mr. Tambourine " I dont mind.. BUT there are some songs that are PERFECT as Bob sings em (IMO) yet another "case and point " - "subterranean homesick blues"..and even "Tangled up in blues.." and defo "Dirt ROAD BLUES !" FOR ME - IT'S GOTTA BE BOB SINGING EM.. COS HIS VOICE HAS CHARACTER.. just makes sense.. ( TANGLED..I did like Jerry Garcia's cover tho... admittedly..) cheers eva !
