well... just a matter of style preference... clarify- what appeals to your ear? not necessarily who is the best or most technical etc..

none of these guys are really known for their soloing skills, except for clapton. my only thing is with clapton is that he hasn't soloed (he's soloed, but not SOLOED) since his days with cream. so i'm going with pete on this one since he was the first guy to really use the power rock stance (as seen in school of rock), and innovated loudness, windmills, jumps, and the rock opera. pete has gotten better when it comes to solos over the years though. a true musical genius.

I picked Townshend cos I love the early Who sound.
Unfortunately, I very much dislike a lot of Clapton. For the most part it's all 12-bar blues. And I find it somewhat tiring.

Out of those i'd say Ray davies.
Good riffs, as well as some nice simple and effective subtle guitar lines.

Clapton, however i am a fan of all of these guitarists
I'm really into the blues stuff Claptons does, some of the stuff he's done with BB King is great, i'm luvin' the blues stuff and like playing it myself

yeah man, but he was one of the sloppiest guitarists as well. just listen to that solo in heartbreaker. i'm going with SRV, B.B. KING and HENDRIX!!!
