Kid Rock is a prick of the highest order. Pity those who own any of his records, and that Sweet Home Alabama mashup he did ten years ago still traumatises anyone who had to listen to such fucking dirge spew out the radio every single minute of ever single day in summer 2008. No surprise the brain dead fuckwit is a Trump supporter then. Might be worth it if Trump supporters here bin their Oasis records and ramp up the stereo for their kindred spirit Kid Rock. Always hated that he tries to act like he represents Detroit. What an idiot.

Wow, listening to that again made me remember how weak aI song I think that is. Probably my least favorite high profile Gallagher released song, behind maybe Second Bite of the Apple. Oh well, maybe I'll try again in another 6 months to see if I can figure out what people see in it...

Currently listening to Travis's The Man Who. I had Sufjan Stevens's Carrie & Lowell on earlier, but I had to turn it off because it just became too much to handle emotionally. C&L's specificity gives it a ridiculous amount of power that The Man Who could only dream of, yet the lack of any specificity in Fran Healy's writing taps into the universal sentiment of sentimentality better than Stevens's does simply because it's not specific, and therefore easier to relate to. That Healy didn't paint vivid pictures of his feelings like Stevens did, and instead only captured impressions of them, means that it's easier to insert yourself into the songs, to make them about you. I feel like this lack of specificity is also what makes Oasis resonate with so many people. This has got me thinking - is the reason that so much pop music that dominates the charts these days (but by no means all of it) is so sickeningly polished and impersonal? Does that specific kind of music that feels so manufactured and lacking in personality resonate with people simply because it's easier to place yourself into the song and imagine yourself in the place of the singer? If I were to record an album that's very close to my heart, does that mean it can't touch as many other hearts because it's too close to mine? There's no doubting that too much specificity in your music can get self-indulgent (see Lennon's post-Imagine solo work), but at what cost should we sacrifice the character of the author, the touch of an individual person, in the name of universality?
Noel has mentioned that he deliberately rewrites his songs to be less specific as he deems necessary, which to me seems to imply he's at least unconsciously tapped into that successful formula you're talking about that I see a lot in pop. A bit of a shame because beloved songs like Half The World Away and While The Song Remains the Same have what I'd say is a perfect balance of specificity and universality that we don't see too often from him (or from a lot of other writers). I don't think vagueness is always a benefit to the song's popularity either, as long as it's got a good hook it can be personal and esoteric on the radio (3EB's "Semi-Charmed Life" and Fun.'s "Some Nights" come to mind). That being said, a lot of pop falls into that trap because it's easy to write and easy to digest, so the extra work often goes unnoticed. The balance of commerciality/personality is a tough one to walk - though I will say I fall on the poppier side of things; I'd rather a blandly nice record than a record where one person was given complete creative freedom and everyone was too afraid to say no even when something was obviously a step too far (Be Here Now almost falls into this trap but is salvaged by its pure swagger imo). Tom Petty almost didn't release I Won't Back Down because he thought it was too direct, and not ambiguous.

I have two words to respond to Ben Sasse and you: Merrick Garland. Don't complain about the lack of civility when Republicans broke 240 years of protocol by blocking a sitting president's Supreme Court nominee from getting a hearing. And when they preventing Senators from seeing 90% of Kavanaugh's documents—something that has never been done before as well. Don't complain about the lack of civility when Republicans did everything they could to prevent Obama from passing anything. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, "One of my proudest moments was when I told Obama, 'You will not fill this Supreme Court vacancy.'" To which I say, playtime's over. Don't dish it out if you can't take it. So basically, don't complain about the lack of civility when you don't get your own way. Got it. Wow. You are insane if that is your takeaway from that. But I guess I kinda already knew that so whatever. Don't expect civility if you don't display civility.

In industries like this, the rate is usually inflated because health insurance and other benefits are not provided for. Let me just point out that in the UK, NHS is universal, just like in my contry, you don't absolutely need a health insurance. I also don't recieve any other benefits. The only issue really might be retirement pension (I'm not sure how it works in the UK regarding independent workers). Anyway, it was just an offhanded comment. Oh I completely forgot all that isn't a completely broken system like in the US. My bad.

Does anyone know what are the criteria for crediting people in albums? There must be some kind of published criteria, no? That kind of thing should be as clear as possible from the beggining, that and how much you're getting paid. It would just be easier: you could either agree to the terms or not before starting the work. This said, I've just been reminded that in the end the AA were offered 8k to remix 7 tracks in 2 months, whereas I earn less than 2000 euros per month for 42 h weekly work (in which I may end up killing someone if I do so some mistake), plus, I rarely am able to leave on schedule due to (unpaid) overwork. Plus, I am more or less obliged to do scientific work (again, unpaid) if I want to have a few more Kudos in my CV and eventually progress to a higher "tier" of payment in the next 5 years (that IF indeed those vacancies for a higher tier ever are out to applicances). It-makes-me-depressed. In industries like this, the rate is usually inflated because health insurance and other benefits are not provided for.

Holy fuck my lawyer just gave me a ton of information about disability and medical coverage. I didn’t think he was working this extensively. Still not sure what path to take, but I am very fortunate. Yes, if you have medical coverage, you should consider yourself fortunate.

It's almost like pandering to massive companies and their interest in profit is bad for the average person and consumer. Who knew? Just wait, it's only going to get worse now that net neutrality is gone and the distribution of media is even more intertwined the ever. But you know, it was totally not a big deal.

Can someone please explain the Lennon quote to me at the end of I’m outta time? I never understood the meaning of it. They weren't happy with just having a super Lennon-like song on there, so they had to basically make it a parody by adding a completely unrelated quote that in no way has anything to do with the theme of the song.

Gotten us out of the terrible Iran deal, gutting the terrible and unsustainable Obamacare, making sure Europe pays their share with NATO, having summits with our adversaries like Reagan and leading with Peace through Strength, decimated ISIS, making sure we have a strong, and safe border, tax cuts, an incredible economy....the list is endless. Obama’s presidency has been rolled back within two years. Obama was an inconsequential president, DT is a transformative president. Huh, purposely ruining millions of people's healthcare options. Not caring about the people while doing so. Getting fucking played by multiple countries with dictators as leaders? Trying to destroy the press, obstruct justice. Literally undo everything Obama passed only because it was passed by Obama regardless of it's impact. Literally lying with every sentence in a way that his statements can all be proven to factually incorrect. Trying to destroy the environment. What a fucking joke.

Donald Trump is like Jose Mourinho, many people dislike him as a person, they may dislike his tactics and antics, but by god does he get results. So much winning. In what fucking definition of your deluded mind is he winning at anything? Winning at setting our country back 80 years?

Really beautiful version; many Noel songs sound great in a stripped down guitar-piano arrangement, it enhances their melodic quality (see the Jools Holland version of "Where did it all go wrong?" for instance). This live version highlights how "While the song remains the same" is superior to "If love is the law". Honestly it's superior to all post Oasis songs imo...

*cough*tumblr*cough Noel clarified the song writing Ashcroft drama. He includes RA, Liam, Damon, Jarvis, and a couple others in a list of people who are still making their own music in the traditional way. And wonders when they, and he, stop who will take their place Wasn’t this all filmed before both AYW and his comments about RA? Yes

I’m still not registered to vote. I told my mom that my first vote will go towards helping Donald Trump secure reelection in 2020 just for the sake of offsetting her vote. She was not amused. God bless. I thought you "didn't support him?" Actually I don't care.

At this point, if Roger doesn't win a non-clay event I'm just happy if Rafa doesn't. Gotta keep those records. Well done Novak for taking the Spanish bull out - pretty dull Wimbledon in all, though, other than Djoko-Nadal. Even Anderson-Isner, for it's lengthy drama, was mainly chisseled by errors. Hope Roger gets a long rest and comes out swinging for the US. 37 years old and when he's playing well, still the best player in the world. Did you watch Nadal-DelPo? Pretty much the opposite of dull? Would've been the match of the tournament if not for the next semifinal. I'd also argue Nadal is the best player in the world, what with the better showing at Wimbledon and the higher ranking, if only by 1 rank....
