No it aint!! Smokin has been proven that it shortens life! its is, the reason tomo's grandad died you dont no so therfore you cant link it to smoking. He could have been run over for all you no, if thats the case he would have still died regardless of whether he smoked or not. |

Yeah, but cars actually contribute something useful to society. Cigarettes do nothing but harm people. True, but they only harm people who choose to be harmed by cigarettes... |

True, but they only harm people who choose to be harmed by cigarettes... What about passive smoking. Passive smokers don't choose to be harmed by smoking. Not too mention the burden on the countries health system. There are resources being used to treat cancer ridden smokers, when they could be used more productively to help children with leukemia. |

the medical system is not about budgets man.

Okay but just one more thing, because otherwise this will never end and because I love having the last say. One city (eg: pop. 1,200,000 people) might have only two radiotherapy machines. There is a waiting list of cancer patients to be treated by them. People often have to wait up to 6 months(no bullshit, it happens where I live and this is a western city which has been ranked as the third most desirable city to live in the world (by TIME magazine or something)). The smokers go on the list with everybody else(on principle if someone is sick and you can help them, you do it, even if it is they're fault they are sick). If smoking was banned the number of patients on the list will go down, and people more deserving(with cancer not caused by life style choices) will get a fairer go. This goes for the fat people who do no exercise too. Public medical systems are VERY much about budget, and most people cannot afford private health cover. |

next case:
someone goes joydriving and gets in a carcrash. He gets to the emergencyroom, so thats occupied. theyre busy operating and a kid with whatever kind of decease comes in and has to wait and maybe dies or whatever because of the time.
once again: im not saying i proud of smoking, im not saying its good, but dont take it to extremes please.
that was the very last say of this topic, which i love to have too.

if you wanna smoke, go down the shop and buy your fags. If you dont, dont.
If your worried about passive smoking, then fuckin stay away from smokers. I know that when your in a pub it can get annoying, personally i sort of blow it away from people, what help that does, I dont fucking know, its just being a bit polite. i smoke, and hate it when people blow into my face, thats just nasty man but if you want a pint down your local pub then im sorry, your gonna have to put up with it.
Oh yeah, my grandad died of old age by the way....

However the difference between alcohol and cigarettes, is that alcohol contributes something positive to peoples well being and therefore society in general. Cigarettes only do that once someone is addicted to them. I´m sorry to start this discussion once again.. I really am... it´s just that I can´t believe that this quote was dismissed like that.. alcohol contributes something positive to society?!! First of all, don´t get me wrong.. I drink and I smoke cigarretes and marijuana... but don´t tell me that drinking brings something postive to society... i don´t really know in what fucking world you live in man, but go and tell an an alcoholic´s wife that.. or an alcoholic kids.. hell take Liam and Noel if you will!! I don´t know if there are any in your country, but over here in Brazil there are thousands of homeless people that were neglected by their families due to alcohol problems... Now just because you get a kick out of being drunk every other weekend, don´t bring up an argument that it´s fucking good to society man.. cause it´s not.. it´s a drug just like cigarretes and marijuana.. damn... and, as I said before I do smoke, but as someone up there said, I too try to be polite by not blowing the smoke on people´s faces.. If you are afraid of dying by passive smoking.. then go and live in fucking Mars where there is no polution and no ozon (don´t how you spell that) layer holes.. hell, there isn´t even an ozon layer in Mars, but you get my point.. |
