I just got invited to a private subreddit which seems to be for some kind of "underground religion". Weird...

Watching Garden State (again). Most certainly my most favourite movie of all time. Next Halloween, I'll be going as Zach Braff. Yes, yes, oh yay.

Where's that Calm Down Noel Meme when we need it? There's no malicious in 'Scissor Girl', if anything that's taking the piss out of Noel. Look, I don't know the guitarist's name, so I refer to him by the instrument he plays - the guitar. It's not my fault she's on the scissors! And, for good measure, caro.

You know that point in your life when you realize the house you grew up in isn't really your home anymore? All of a sudden even though you have some place where you put your shit, that idea of home is gone.
You'll see one day when you move out it just sort of happens one day and it's gone. You feel like you can never get it back. It's like you feel homesick for a place that doesn't even exist. Maybe it's like this rite of passage, you know. You won't ever have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start, it's like a cycle or something. I don't know, but I miss the idea of it, you know. Maybe that's all family really is. A group of people that miss the same imaginary place.

Fucking hell, has it really happened again? 26 murdered in a church shooting in a small town near San Antonio, Texas. It's scary to think that 7% of this town's population was killed in that one act of violence.... When are people gonna wise up about guns? If they won't do anything after 20 kindergarteners are massacred, or after someone snipes 60 people in 10 minutes from a hotel window with an automatic rifle, then I suppose nothing will ever change, sadly.

Money talks unfortunately, the proprietors of the ten leading domestic US gun manufacturers in addition to many donating upwards of $1m each for membership of the 'Golden Ring of Freedom', an exclusive circle of the NRA for people who donate such sums. An excellent Mother Jones article from June 2016 into this $8bn industry makes for depressingly familiar reading into how they achieve the objectives and remain comparatively anonymous even in light of such news stories, but as a written piece it is well researched and sheds light on a deliberately obscured industry- Mother Jones- 'Fully Loaded' article (image taken from article)

EVEN IF there would be a total gun ban, like the UK, how would that work? There are way too many guns in circulation that it would just grow the black market. Frankly, I don’t think this is an issue that can be fixed. It’s a societal problem, not a gun control problem. Until we figure out what causes people to do this, and how to spot the warning signs in advanced, it’s going to persist.

Until we figure out what causes people to do this, and how to spot the warning signs in advanced, it’s going to persist. This to a large extent unfortunately. We have had increases in the number of gun related crimes and gangs since I was a child in the UK and despite the laws on such ownership it hasn't gone away. Even removing the domestic manufacturers like the ones mentioned in my previous post link would only IMO see the ones in circulation go at a premium price, and smuggling of Eastern Europe/ex-Soviet/Chinese made firearms start to become an issue in the same way as any contraband importing issue has been for the USA. I don't have the answers to this sadly but some of it I believe could be avoided with more understanding of potential danger signs in people (for want of a better description) but even then in some cases there appears to be no trigger of any kind until the event happens, by which time of course it is too late.

I don't have all the answers but I do know that people like the NRA should not be shutting down debate about this issue. We need to have a productive discussion about guns. It doesn't have to be a complete ban. It may not completely prevent these tragedies. But we can at least make them less frequent and save countless lives, which is already worth the effort even if we can't save everyone.

The answer is getting money out of politics. As long as Republicans are being funded by the bribes from the NRA, "thoughts and prayers" is all there will ever be.

Until we figure out what causes people to do this, and how to spot the warning signs in advanced, it’s going to persist. The US isn't the only country with maniacs. But the difference is that in most other countries, maniacs aren't allowed to buy guns. If there were universal background checks, the killings wouldn't end, but they would be CONSIDERABLY fewer. And until this loophole is fixed, mass shootings is indeed a "gun control problem".

While I respect Paul McCartney, the kangaroos in my area are overcrowding and he remains silent. The shooters we have hired actually say they bag more now than winter.

Alvvays is playing 6.3.2018 in Amsterdam, two days before Liam's gig. I get to see both of them They're playing at Tolhuistuin (Paradiso Noord), it's a sub venue of Paradiso and located in the other side of the town. You can take a free ferry from the other side of the Central Station and ferry takes only 5 minutes. The venue is just opposite of the ferry port. It's a nice venue. I've seen Johnny in 2014 in the venue. Don't forget to take your debit or credit card to buy drinks as it's a cash free venue. In fact all the pubs/restaurants in Amsterdam North are cash free. English men who were standing next to me at Johnny's gig weren't happy as they left their credit cards at hotel, so they couldn't buy beer all evening.

That's probably the most thoughtful, poignant and intelligent post you've made in my 9 years on this forum. I don't mean that in a patronising sense either - keep it up, cut the crap out and 'dig out your soul' a bit more!

It's really hard to not make your influences obvious when you're writing comedy. I'm struggling to exorcise the ghosts of Edgar Wright and Woody Allen from the page at present.

Watching season 12 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and it's amazing how they've managed to keep the level this high.
Like this show is so fucking bizarre I rarely even see that kind of stuff in UK shows which I normally prefer. Honestly, this is the best comedy I've ever seen.
