The first two on your list are in my personal top five of all time. And if you add Boogie Nights, you have the best trio of films made by any director. But best three film run? HAS to be Strangelove / Space Odyssey / Clockwork Orange. Kubrick is untouchable in my opinion. Ok, that run is hard to beat Too bad Punch-Drunk Love "interrupted" between Boogie Nights and "TWBB" (although I think it's pretty good), otherwise that run would have been something out of the ordinary to say the least! And to think he was only 37 when he had completed those three masterpieces (ok, maybe that's a stretch for Boogie Nights), that is simply mind-boggling.

To be honest, I wish more ruthless with his editing all the time like he was with that film - if Magnolia was just a little less melodramatic (that singing scene) and a little shorter, it would be an out and out masterpiece like TWBB. Some of the scenes in Magnolia really get to me, though. The restaurant date and of course Tom Cruise's ending are wonderfully emotional.

I've only seen "PDL" (it's too hard writing all these long words!) once, I'll have to se it again. But I remember it as about a 7.5/10, which is not bad at all. I TOTALLY get why so many people have issues with Magnolia being too melodramatic at times. But it simply works for me, when in many other films I would instead have ranted about the ridiculousness of it all (I guess the singing scene is the most obvious example). But by the time most of the melodrama "kicks in", I've already been won over by two hours that feels like 30 minutes, and I guess that the frogs would have had to begin singing as well for me to lose that feeling of sheer amazement and joy, and instead having to place it into the category of "if only this and that-films". I guess I love the film more despite and not because of the melodrama, but it doesn't break the flow, and therefore it's no issue to me. Let the frogs rain down endlessly!

I just realised that I probably turned one 14y Scottish kid an Oasis fan. I know him from that racing game I used to play a lot and I was always linking great music in the chat. Now he says he might go see Noel in his next tour and already tried to buy tickets to Liam's show in Glasgow but couldn't. Seems to be a gread lad, but every once in a while when I chat with him on fb I'm like "I forgot you're only 14, aren't you supposed to be still playing with toys or something"

When the first frog fell on Jim's windshield, I thought he had been shot by the kid who took his gun. That would have been a much harder-hitting ending for me. And I could do without ANY frogs to be perfectly honest - although it does fit the whimsical who'd-have-thunk-it vibe of the movie. Like you say though, the first two hours are magnificent. Unique, fast, emotional, almost even visionary.

Watching Ken Burns's Vietnam (a staggering 10 part, 20 hr long) documentary, and it's amazing and incredibly humbling.

Still the best documentary series I have ever seen in my life. Need to see more of his work. Does that amazing thing for a historical documentary by being totally immersive and drawing your emotions.

I'd highly recommend just all of his documentaries. If you liked the Civil War, then I'd also recommend his WWII documentary. For me though, Civil War and Baseball are his two best.

Here's a download code for Second Coming by The Stone Roses if anyone wants it. Came with the vinyl and I already have the CD so won't be needing this.

Unique, fast, emotional, almost even visionary. Sure, I guess the movie could still have been a masterpiece without any frog activity at all, but as with most great works of art, I don't like the thought of altering anything (not even in theory almost), with the fear that the absence of one certain scene/detail/whatever, no matter how expendable it may seem, would somehow make the film a tiny bit worse. Not worth the risk! At least that's how I think Btw, that first sentence probably could have been shorter...

Why the fuck do our police have to use that old white VW Transporter as their "undercover" car... Every fucking company is using them and it's hard to tell if it's a cop or not, especially when it's dark.
I just saw three cars that could've been a cop in 5 minutes. One of them drove just behind me while I was driving at least 10km/h over the speed limit but I didn't want to slow down either because everyone else was driving too...

Let them solve it by themselves. “And so now I'd like to say - people can change anything they want to. And that means everything in the world. People are running about following their little tracks - I am one of them. But we've all got to stop just following our own little mouse trail. People can do anything - this is something that I'm beginning to learn. People are out there doing bad things to each other. That's because they've been dehumanised. It's time to take the humanity back into the centre of the ring and follow that for a time. Greed, it ain't going anywhere. They should have that in a big billboard across Times Square. Without people you're nothing. That's my spiel.” ― Joe Strummer

Marc Tardy gets out of a coma, people still attack him for no reason. Imagine you fell heavily and your lungs filled with water. That is what happened to Marc, now a grandfather
