Well, I've taken my decision, I'm going to Scotland in August. A couple of weeks to start but I think I'm gonna stay there study and work. I'd go to Glasgow. I think there are more chances that I find people with the same musical interests there. I'm decided, I'm gonna try it and if it doesn't work, I'll come back home. Don't know how much pricing is an issue, but I'd definitely recommend anywhere near or around Edinburgh. One of my favourite parts of the world, an absolutely beautiful city.I agree! All the people I met in Edinburgh when I was younger were really lovely people with heart of gold. Great memory of mine. I love Scotland, Scottish people and Scottish bands. Edinburgh and Glasgow have completely different characters. Glasgow is much more rough than Edinburgh.

I just read that it's very hard to get in to Edinburgh universities. At least people in Finland are saying they won't make any offers Just looked at my grades and physics, math and English are all equivalent to B. I guess I have some sort of chance to get in with those grades? Just need to decide what I actually want to study... But this could really be the change I want in my life. Move to Scotland and start a new life. Maybe I could even join a band with lubeck

The Escapist mimmihopps I have been told that Edinburgh is absolutely gorgeous (and the pics I saw seem to confirm it) but I heard that it was also way more pricey than Glasgow. I've also read (from matt and people from other forums) that Glasgow had maybe a bit more "soul". Anyway, I'm probably gonna see both cities so I'll see there. I'll probably start with some couchsurfing.

Glasgow is much more rough than Edinburgh. It is certainly more rough around the edges mimmi but I will always prefer Glasgow to Edinburgh, and it does have an unfair stereotype as a very violent city. Edinburgh is a great city too and is absolutely beautiful - my mum and dad lived there when they were first married and love the city. That said, it's more of a distant city for me personally - a big ornament that is beautiful to look at but behind the facade, there's not as much to do. But I get a great sense of warmth and community from Glasgow, and its culture just thrives on the deep roots and camaraderie of its people. Because of this, the cultural output is massive and the opportunities are the best for any budding musician or artist to go there. The endless stream of artists, actors and musicians that have come from Glasgow in the last 50 years is incredible and long may it continue. I don't live there anymore but it's a place I badly miss.

So Arsenal are coming to Sydney. Good weekend for trackwork! Think about commuters coming from north or south of Sydney and during school holidays. Nope, trackwork. And they wonder why I'm watching Canberra (CBR) Brave play Perth Thunder this weekend instead.

I seriously can't and don't understand why some people make it so difficult for themselves and for others. Be honest to your fellow people.

Edinburgh is a fantastic city, loads of history and great places to eat and drink. Anyway, forget both of them, get yourself to Dundee Uni, Scotlands best kept secret and full of cool fuckers like me.

It is true about the big man bit, no point denying it. Either that or you'll get called mate, a lot, or chief or mucker or vagina. Sign of affection mind you. Glasgow is cool, loads of pubs, clubs and cracking places for live music and bands. I like Edinburgh, was through there last year for the Stereophonics and some of the pubs were pretty decent. Can't say I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing Dundee. My mate has worked through there a couple of times and still goes on about Fat Sams to this day.

Fatties is shite now, was a great club at one point. Has been there for about 35 years. Dundee has undergone a huge transformation over my life-time. From an industrial place to a very student/arts oriented city now. It certainly still has its issues but is a great wee place, especially to study for a few years in.

Just popping my head in the door to say hi. Feels like it's been a while, but I'm reading up on things almost daily. It's always nice to hear all your adventures. lubeck go have an adventure! Never been to Scotland but would like to. I'm surprised to learn Glasgow has the rough reputation, I keep thinking of trainspotting set in Edinburgh. @manualalex whenever I hear anything of Venezuela, I wonder if you're doing ok and your family is safe. I'm away from home a lot at the moment, was just in Montreal which is I think where underneaththesky is from. Nice place for sure, lots of young people. They go to party and to study I guess. Actually found an Oasis item I don't have whilst in Toronto, the LTBL 10" single. There's about 8 vinyl singles I still don't have but I'm seeing if I ever find them in person. It's too easy to just order online, I miss the thrill of surprising finds. Anyways if you are ever in Toronto, go to Sonic Boom records on spadina street. I found do much there, it's a wonder I walked out only spending $100. Lennon2217 eva mimmihopps guigsysEstring asimarx ...you are all terrific fun to 'spend time with' in this 21st century forum context. Hope all is well on your ends, as well as everyone else here. Til the next time...

After lubeck's inspiring post yesterday I really started thinking about Scotland as an option. I was actually daydreaming almost the whole 5 hours of work last night, thinking of pros and cons and if I'd have the guts to go there. My future's completely open, I don't really have much in Finland so why shouldn't I try. I started reading about the universities and heard so many positive experiences. Little googling revealed my grades aren't good enough for Edinburgh or the University of Glasgow. However, Strathclyde might be possible to get in. I really don't know yet because the website is a bit confusing. It says they require grades 4-6 depending of courses and I have M-grade in both math and physics when L is top 5%, E 20%, M 40%, C 64%, etc, not sure if that's enough. Dundee is another option, Aberdeen feels like it's too north Of course I have my social anxiety and everything but currently I feel like my urge to do something different is bigger. I think this could be the positive change I need in my life. I've always wanted to live in a city with where is something but never thought it's possible for me. Glasgow suddenly answered to all of my questions. Music, footy, nice culture, beautiful city, etc. What are your plans lubeck? Are you applying/applied to university?

I saw there were some kind of tests to do before applying in Scotland but I don't know in which uni you have to do that test. I need to know a bit more about it. I just want to try something else a bit and have always fancied going to Scotland. The thing I want the most is to find people to play music, and I think I'll have more opportunities there. And if I can apply to an uni, that will be a nice bonus.

Also I read that you have to be interviewed before getting in and really fly to Glasgow. I've dreamed about living in UK but wasn't really sure how. I thought all the universities have tuition fees until I read about Scotland. For me studying is still important but I guess in the end it'd would be an excuse to move there. If I study I'd finally have a proper reason to live abroad. Also Glasgow sounds absolutely wonderful place for a guy with interests like mine. I mean, where I currently live I'd have to drive +20km to see 4th league football!

I'd rather be a wanker who listens to Oasis than a nice person who listens to U2. End of. Any way, Noel is on record for saying that people only like U2, but people love Oasis. So there you go.

I'd rather be a 'poser' and listen to vocalists I can hear the bloody words of then be a tr00 kvlt idiot. Sure I'll listen to Immortal when I'm in the mood but 24/7? Fuck off!
NP: Doro- Rock til Death (followed by the live duet with Hansi Kursch of.......the same song)
