Am I right in thinking that acts have to perform at the ceremony if they're to be inducted or was that a lie Noel made up a few years back?

The other members of Dire Straits inducted themselves when Mark Knopfler didn't show up, and then didn't play, so they don't have to play. Agreeing to it probably makes the backroom politics more likely to get them inducted tho

I'm genuinely shocked that Oasis were nominated. The only way they'll get in is through the fan vote, but even that doesn't mean much; Dave Matthews Band won the fan vote last year and they weren't inducted.

Paul McCartney didn't when they introduced the Beatles(Ringo, Yoko and George went to accept the induction). A lot of acts don't perform. Some others that come to mind include Bill Withers, Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, Genesis, Janet Jackson, and Kate Bush.

No chance Oasis gets in this year. Too many popular sellers above them.

I certainly agree with people that their chances here are beyond slim.
Ozzy looks like this year’s dead cert, and Foreigner have been named a ‘biggest snub’ a lot before so very likely. DMB also have a great chance. Despite Mariah’s popularity she’s not exactly rock, and Whitney Houston didn’t get in til quite recently, so maybe but maybe not for her. Frampton also a maybe. I’d guess Osbourne, Foreigner, DMB and Cher are near-locks.
Still, being nominated is a decent start. I have to admit I didn’t expect Gem and Andy to be listed as nominees, given it’s US based and their post-BHN stuff didn’t sell as well over there.

Agreeing to it probably makes the backroom politics more likely to get them inducted tho I remember that was so awkward when a member did the band’s own induction speech for them 😂. But yeah, the best chance Oasis will have for the next 5 years will be Liam and Noel agreeing to do a one-off performance together if inducted. Which will obvs never happen.

Just voted for the first time. 292,746 total votes is insane to me, let alone 29,312 for Peter Frampton. Who below the age of 40 (give or take) even knows who that is? Are boomers really going to this website in droves to vote on a daily basis? Smells fishy to me.

Peter Frampton (who I'm not a fan of) was some rock star in the 70s but I've no idea if he's still around today though.

But the only album Ive heard of is that big one Frampton Comes Alive. So unlike say, Ozzy, hes not a name whos 100% stood the test of time.

That song by Peter Frampton which you mentioned is the only song I know of his and I've never liked it.

Yeah, I saw that and it seems that Liam doesn't care about them from what he said on X about them.

Frampton is known for his signature hit songs "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way", "Do You Feel Like We Do", and "I'm in You", all of which remain staples of classic rock radio. He has also appeared as himself in television shows such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Madam Secretary.

I can’t say this surprises me, as he’s said before he really doesn’t care about this sort of thing. I’d have been more shocked if he’d given them a “thank you for this honour” arse-kissing. That probably nixes the slim chance they had, as if they know you won’t accept/perform you’re a lot less likely to get in.

Just for the record, I personally know who he is and I totally agree that he should be in the hall of fame. My point was more about not comprehending how so many people are voting for him, and voting in general. 43,126 is a staggering # for a guy who isn't THAT well known. My speculation is that it's rigged in some way but of course I have no idea.

I just looked it up and not just Frampton, other bands too, like look at number of their followers on every platform and compare to Oasis’s. No way that they are getting more votes in organic way. It’s irrelevant anyway but kinda funny

Don't believe I've intentionally ever listened to any of his music apart from that. I dare say social media trends have some impact.
